It's always fun to see my work in the wild. While the provincial government did the layout themselves, planning, researching and writing this set of interpretive panels for Hecla Village was a fun project. It shares tales of the lives of the Icelanders who settled there in 1876.
A teal blue and brown interpretive panel sits in front of an old two-room schoolhouse with large windows and a double door. The panel is titled Educating the Next Generation and tells the story about schooling on Hecla Island, Manitoba. Two teal blue and brown interpretive panel sit on large wooden posts in a grassy area. One is titled The First Homes and the second one is titled Life of the Island. They tell the story about the Icelandic settlement on Hecla Island, Manitoba.A teal blue and brown interpretive panel stands in front of a reconstructed community hall with a half-circle in the middle of its otherwise rectangular front wall. The panel is titled Community Spirit and tells the story of the different ways the Icelandic settlers on Hecla Island, Manitoba spent their leisure time with each other. A teal blue and brown interpretive panel stands in front of a rusting old pair of boilers and mill equipment. It's the remnants of an old saw mill. The panel is titled Hecla's First Industry and tells the story of woodcutting and milling on the island in the early 1900s.

Hey @chicagotribune.com Editorial Board: Why did you describe me as a “bomb-throwing influencer”? This is wrong, inflammatory, and racist. Change it. www.chicagotribune.com/2026/07/05/e...
So far, the Democratic Socialists of America's success has been confined in large part to deep-blue city districts. Meanwhile, in suburban areas and in statewide contests establishment Democrats generally are winning against progressive challengers. Chicago saw its own version of this dynamic in March in the hotly contested and crowded race to succeed retiring Rep. Jan Schakowsky in the 9th Congressional District. The bomb-throwing influencer Kat Abughazaleh, 27, won the portions of that district in Chicago's North Side lakefront neighborhoods, but suburban votes gave savvy
Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss the win.

Dr. Patricia Bath overcame sexism, racism & poverty and saved the sight of millions of people. She invented the Laserphaco Probe for cataract treatment, 1986; it was patented in 1988. She co-founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness, 1976. She died #OTD in 2019. #WomenInSTEM
A vibrant color historical photograph capturing the brilliant ophthalmologist, inventor, and academic Dr. Patricia Era Bath (1942–2019) in an office or laboratory setting, radiating an aura of confident intelligence and warm approachability. Occupying the center and right of the shot, Dr. Bath sits facing forward, smiling brightly with a direct, engaging gaze at the camera. She is dressed in a professional white medical lab coat—subtly embroidered with "Dr. Bath" in red cursive on the left lapel—worn over a light blue button-down denim shirt and accented by a polished gold chain necklace. Pens are visible tucked into her left coat pocket. Positioned prominently to her right on the left side of the frame is a large, white medical laboratory microscope or ophthalmic imaging equipment with black eye-pieces. The background shows a white wooden bookshelf packed with colorful medical texts, binders, and stacked papers. This portrait carries immense historical significance, honoring a legendary trailblazer in STEM who became the first Black female doctor to patent a medical device—the revolutionary Laserphaco Probe for cataract treatment—fundamentally restoring sight to millions worldwide.
