My first visit ever to Mia was to see my own art hanging in a gallery. Getting 3rd place in the largest crop art class was an incredible enough honor on its own. Being one of 31 pieces selected for Cream of the Crop feels like a dream. I will never get over this. Thank you @artsmia.bsky.social!

On display at Mia: my crop art piece, based on a photo from the Artemis II mission, that used layers of quinoa to create a create a textured moonscape featuring craters of different sizes and depths.

A plaque with info about the artist and piece and a black ribbon that says “Cream of the Crop Honorable Mention” are on the wall by the bottom right corner of the piece.

In a year plagued by darkness and fear, the Artemis Il mission was a beacon of hope and joy. I was deeply moved by the images the crew captured during the Lunar Flyby, especially one titled “Craters of Time.” The photo shows how millions of years of collisions have carved craters of different shapes, sizes, and depths, continually changing the moon’s surface throughout time.
Rather than attempting to capture its beauty through colors and shading, my recreation of the moon’s surface is made from 90,000 grains of quinoa layered on top of each other.

The Howe (Minneapolis) 🧻 It works It’s got some heft and it’s absorbent. The texture is only on the bottom and while it has a not so great handfeel, it’s okay to use. This variety is one of the better commercial toilet papers out there.
