Brent Spiner recalled a moment that was filmed but cut for being "ridiculous": "I remember Worf and Data beamed over to the Borg ship to grab Picard and bring him back to the Enterprise. There was a moment where a Borg is coming up behind me, and I turn and blast him with my phaser. We shot a version of it where the Borg was coming up behind me and I didn't even turn around.
I just put the phaser over my shoulder and shot it and blew it away. We thought that would be really cool if Data just sensed it and didn't have to turn around. It looked great, but they sent it to Rick Berman and he said,
'That's ridiculous. He can't do that. He doesn't have eyes in the back of his head.' So we didn't use that one."

I feel like a lot of fanzines are focused on a single pairing or theme- and I totally understand the need for that in terms of marketability and avoiding scope creep and when people were putting together generalized Trek scenes in the 70s and 80s there was less star trek to cover HOWEVER !!

my haterisms are mellowing out as i have more time to sit with the things i *do* enjoy about the film. (for example, its gorgeous!! the costume design is absolutely amazing & kate hawley is a GENIUS! also the way gdt builds and then begins to break the sympathy for the creature is brilliantly paced-

a screenshot of text in a word processor. It reads as follows: In the 2025 film, he is tortured, yes, but above all else he is arrogant. His desire to create life is not a delicate mix of mental illness, grief, isolation, and fear, as it is in the 1818 novel. Instead this is a story of a man entitled to his wants, who will move heaven & earth and lie and steal and kill with his own hands- to create this life he so desires. Really the more I watched the more I could see it clearly: this is a story about the tragedies of a having a comically evil father.

Shelley’s Victor is wrought with ambitions of his own. His time spent pursuing this goal is solitary and frantic and even at times deeply shameful- and most importantly it is entirely self-imposed. His father is loving, his future is a wealth of possibility, his home is happy (save for the recent and unavoidable tragedy of illness that took the life of his near-angelic mother). He wants for naught, he is loved and respected and he has the prospect of a long and successful life laid out bare in front of him. But his mother does die. And the encompassing grief of that cannot be ignored. At least I thought it would be absolutely foolish to try and adapt Frankenstein with any level of fidelity and not in its own way showcase the grief of losing a parent, and of losing a child (but we’ll get to that a bit later). He has (almost) all anyone could ever ask for and yet he is overcome by this endless and internal need so lay bare the secrets of life. His ambitions are motivated in part by grief, but mostly by his internal desire to succeed.
