Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.

In Paper Mario, the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, Whacka was just a harmless whack-a-mole creature that could be abused to get Whacka Bumps, extremely valuable healing items. After being hit enough times, the Whacka goes extinct, teaching the players the consequences of their actions. However, in the Switch version of Paper Mario: TTYD, he instead moves to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and becomes an optional superboss with 108 HP.
He is fought at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and has to be hit 8 times in order for the fight to activate.

I am so fucking tired of seeing people rip each other to pieces over this stupid "Malfoid" trend. I understand why you hate it! You have a right to be pissed about people jumping on and sharing it. But you do NOT get to harass and threaten people over it.

If you HAVE to say something, try and be kind. But really, just block and move on. If it's someone you know or are friends with, a discussion- NOT an accusation!- might be in order.

And for the love of fuck don't attack the people who DO apologize! I don't even care if the apology is sincere or not, you're only sending the message that there's no point and the people that are genuinely ignorant about the nuance, or are open to change, WILL see how you treat the people who do, and they are gonna side with the people who don't treat them like shit.

Finally, I know some people have felt that the whole trend is some sort of conspiracy. I don't know. I doubt it, but I also know that there ARE people that will stir the pot and benefit off our division. In any case, turning on each other, threatening and brigading people, especially people that are/were friends, you're just playing into that and making it easier to divide us all.

To the Artists:
I am sorry to those that have been harassed, attacked, and threatened for jumping on this art trend. I know for most, Harry Potter is a story dear to your hearts, and the controversy around Rowling may be something you are distantly aware exists at most. And we all love a fun art trend.

There is a reason people are angry about the trend. JK Rowling has for years been very vocally against the Trans community and has used much of the wealth from the HP franchise to lobby against the trans rights. The Queer and Trans communities have been trying to spread the word for years, basically *begging* people to stop supporting the property that is directly using its revenues to harm them.

This trend is particularly insidious for a couple of reasons. First, by flipping or "transing" Malfoy's character, it comes across as a far more intentional and pointed dig at the community. Secondly, the term "foid" was coined by 4chan as one of their artisanal, handcrafted slurs. It basically aims to dehumanize women, and Trans women in particular.

While your fanart does not directly profit Rowling or HP, it *does* help maintain their popularity. Moreover, it sends the message whether you intend it or not that you care more about childhood nostalgia than the safety and freedom of your trans friends and followers. For many, it is the last in a long line of betrayals. That does not excuse the level of vitriol many of you have been exposed to. But I hope you at least understand where it comes from, and maybe consider a different trend.
