Thanks for all your help, Alison; herewith my "turtles" from Olous (they're tortoises, surely!). Keep up the excellent work! I think we all appreciate it! Stelios Jackson

Awww, they're gorgeous! I did find a collection of what I believe to be tortoises, from Olous/Elounda, currently residing in the Ag. Nikolaos Arch Mus., but I find myself amazed that I can't find any depictions dating to the Bronze Age in all the books I have on frescoes and other B.A. Aegean art. 😕

Hi, Alison; do you know of *any* depictions of sea turtles from the Bronze Age, or even later Greek or Roman eras? I'm asking for a friend (really, I am), but having drawn a blank with the wealth of material I have in my library here in Crete, I think I may have become more obsessed than my friend

So sad to hear West Ham's giant of goalkeeping, hugely popular Ludek Miklosko has died. 373 games for WHU & Hammer of the Year. Fans still chant"My name is Ludek Miklosko I come from nr Moscow..." Lucky to have had a lovely chat with him at Budvar event. #SafeHands #RIPLudo

This is quite the leap, but if I remember correctly, Ralph McTell's father was Vaughan's gardener, and Ralph changed his name from May to McTell in honour of Blind Willy (emphasis on the "Mc"); I was a huge fan of the great Blues' artist, and found myself appreciating both RMcT and RVW through this.

Timeless humour! A 2,000 year-old Roman souvenir pen with a joke inscription roughly equivalent to: “I went to Rome and all I got you was this cheap pen!" 😂 Dated circa 70 AD, this iron stylus pen was recovered in London during excavations by MOLA. 📷 Juan Jose Fuldain/MOLA #Archaeology
The photo by Juan Jose Fuldain for MOLA shows four images of the same Roman iron stylus (pen) one below the other, with knib to the left. The stylus is octagonal in shape, with a dot-punched inscription along its length on four alternate sides. The stylus is 132 mm long and 5 mm thick, and the letters are circa 2 mm high. The four images of the pen show the four lines of inscribed text (highlighted) which read:

'ab urbe v[e]n[i] munus tibi gratum adf (e)ro acul[eat]um ut habe[a]s memor[ia]m nostra(m)
rogo si fortuna darlelt quo possem
largius ut longa via ceu sacculus est (v)acuus'

Translated as

I have come from the City. I bring you a welcome gift with a sharp point that you may remember me.
I ask, if fortune allowed, that I might be able (to give) as generously as the way is long (and) as my purse is empty.'

This inscription is generally interpreted by scholars as a humorous, tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment by the giver of the cheapness of the gift.

RefUK, RW media, & Eurofash are plainly trying to whip up a panic about this. Any serious report must begin by explaining that Ceuta is in Africa - not mainland Spain - and 48k+ of the 50k crossers were already returned. It is frightening how many still don't know this. Please share on all socials.
Map showing the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla in North Africa.Screengrab from Politico piece that explains, citing Reuters, that 48,300 of the 50,000 recent crossings have already been expelled or voluntarily returned to Morocco.BBC report on Friday, still echoing the RW disinformation - or at the very least not challengning it sufficiently.

Spain's prime minister has blamed trafficking gangs after about 60,000 migrants crossed into the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. At least 57 people died during the surge, according to local media."Daily Mail and Daily Express from this weekend, with front page headlines "Ministers MUST stop the Spanish border invaders reaching UK" and "SPANISH BORDER CRISIS IS 'WAKE-UP CALL' FOR UK", respectively.

Extract from Private Eye: Bluesky also banned

THE government confirmed today that, despite being left off the initial list, Bluesky would be included in the social media sites banned for under 16s.

Said a Downing Street spokesman, "We're determined to protect impressionable teen minds from being exposed on Bluesky to friendly polite
conversation on topics ranging from the albums of Miles Davis to classic 70s Hollywood movies and the best era of Doctor Who."

He continued, "Filling teenagers' impressionable young minds with this genial chat is no way to prepare them for the hellish Al future that awaits them."
