btw, the 65% turnout last election was considered very high turnout for the US. I'd also like to point out that of those, our current president only got 49.9% of that vote (which is 32.4% of voters) Of the total US population, that means our current president was elected by only 19% of the pop

So how do we elect our president? We fucking don't. We elect a smaller amount of people who choose other people to pick the president, with no real serious safeguards.

There's also this neat unspoken rule where they go by the popular vote. They don't have. A few states fine them if they don't, and it's very affordable usually. A couple states have big fines, like 10k+

So how do we choose the president? Well first we elect Representitives and Senators. Then we assign each state a vote based on how many reps/senators they have. Then each state has a different, sometimes unclear ways to choose electors The electors decide for us.

Folks outside the US might wonder "How did Americans manage to pick their president?" and the answer is way more complex then it should be. Only 76% of our eligible pop is registered Of those, only 65% of that 76% voted None of that matters because we don't elect presidents on popular votes.

I think our guild had a successful run in S1 of Midnight, and I'm always shocked that we've managed to keep the raid groups going without recruiting. My partner and I have an incredibly deep network of friends that we've built over our 20 years of playing WoW that we've been working with.

Primaries are completely separate from the main elections and do not determine who gets to hold office. This may be incredibly obvious to a lot of us, but theres a lot of folks who dont know this because they, like many Americans, are apolitical until something impacts them in a major way.

Been lurking a lot lately. One thing I keep seeing is a lot of folks making comments indicating that they dont know how Primaries work. Primaries are how each party decides who to run against the other. Dems and Republicans run separate Primaries.

i really want to go over the times i've seen AI used at Blizz (particularly WoW since that's what I'm familiar with obviously) because i feel people just throw around the term for "things i don't like". the vast majority of cases i've seen certain people say shit haven't AI at all

The times I've seen "Blizzard" use AI were outsourced teams that do it on an individual level rather than a team level. I think certain ads (particularly hearthstone) comes to mind? I think one of the pixel art card guys they hired did so too. And of course customer support tickets sometimes (I think their automated tickets and overall responses are not the greatest to begin with atm though)
Also I think one of the Chinese website things used AI (or an AI filter) on some card texture models for midnight characters on some specific web page, which could be a similar outsourcing situation.
I've never seen actual genAI applied in the game. There was a patent paper they wrote about making a homebrew gen AI that did ground textures baking to make repeating ground textures less monotonous, but also no idea if that was ever implemented (this was back in early Dragonflight).
Many of their other areas seem to be pretty against gen AI. Their artists and devs seem to largely be against it. The english social media team (eric for example) are pretty against it. I think some of the higher ups like Ion may have mentioned something about not using it? I've seen one of the music composers speak out about disliking it before. Like there's so many sources I've seen of employees disliking AI it's kind of hard to believe that anyone could actually get away with it in any sort of group setting. They'd really have to be some truly independent thing or something outsourced
