You are not just reading a book to your baby. You are teaching your baby in that moment about how books are held, how page are turned, which direction they are turned in, how to look critically at information.

If you have ever read a book to a baby, you will realize it's not a linear experience. The baby wants to turn pages backward, wants to ask questions (if they're old enough), wants to examine the pages and get really excited if they can say "bear!" even if the word "bear!" is not on the page.
