This is a good illustration of how so much of AI theft isn't indirect (ie, data sucked into a model to train the chatbot) - it's actually **direct** copying, but *enabled* by GenAI. Of course it is: chatbots absolutely suck at creating good, new stuff.

One of my go to responses when accused of bias is “Reality has a bias.” Sometimes things are just true! We don’t need to both sides things like “People who don’t have to worry about housing or their next meal have a higher average quality of life.” That’s just a true thing!

Why is reducing ideological bias a goal? To what end? Politics is almost always a fight over values, not facts. I don’t care if I am “biased” towards social justice, whatever that means.

This is not to say that this is some insurmountable wall that technology will never conquer. It very well might! But nothing we have today is even close.

If you were to take the most advanced system we have today, and without any prompt or input whatsoever, place it in an absolute sterile void, would it do anything? If it spontaneously came into being in such an environment, would it act? Living creatures would. A computer would not.

My grossly simplified shorthand question for a baseline level of intelligence would just be “does it want?” People want. Dogs want. The birds and the bees and the fish in the seas want. AI, as we have it currently, does not want. It has directives it complies with. It does nothing without input.

It’s a good thing there’s no precedent for a world power going all in on economic pursuits that they had no capacity to maintain leading to a total collapse of that world power. It’d be really bad if there were like some union of states that had been down a similar path before. A real red flag.

Glad folks are appalled by photos of the "phone booth" cage under an awning, but pls understand: This IG report is likely part of a cover-up. Amnesty Int'l interviewed detainees EIGHT MONTHS AGO who said the cage was half this size (couldn't stand up), had no awning, w feet chained to the bottom.

I mean, there are many people online saying literally anything. I don’t think we need to engage with every bad take on Al Gore’s internet. But we can’t say “I’m gonna vote for you despite your terrible opinions,” because then they won’t change. You can still vote without publicly supporting though

Trickard Lasso @trickard23.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Nobody is saying “don’t vote for this candidate under any circumstances,” that would be asinine. But it’s so easy to exert pressure on candidates if people stop saying “vote blue no matter who” and start saying “earn my vote.” Recognizing trans people as people is not an unreasonable ask.

Push the Dems to be better on the issue. This isn’t a riddle. You threaten to withhold your dollar and your vote unless and until they adopt tolerable views. If enough people do this, they’ll cave! We’ve seen it countless times! Don’t accept them as they are, push them to be what we deserve!

Genuinely, how does this differ from 1930s Germany? Taking a minority population which was legally present in the country, stripping them of that status, and empowering armed goons of the state to hunt them down and disappear them to a camp, prison, or unsafe foreign nation? Nazi shit, straight up.

Per recent AP polling, approximately 4 in 10 religious, and only 2 in 10 secular American Jewish adults (and this is the larger group) believe Israel to be justified in its “military action.” So then the better question is: why are we giving this minority of a minority opinion outsized weight?

There are a lot of diaspora Jews who would say they still have no homeland, because a state which commits these acts is one which they cannot consider a home. That these actions are antithetical to Jewish identity Just because a state has good propaganda, doesn’t mean we have to take it at its word

Pleading no contest is a pretty common facet of intervention/diversionary programs wherein the case is held in stasis pending completion of the program, at which point the case is dismissed. It’s held like that so that the State can get a quick conviction if the pleader fails to complete the program
