David Gilmour still plays the big Floyd songs because he knows they brought him this audience and the music was amazing. Radiohead can fuck off.

It was beautiful out but it was the kid’s bedtime, so we just sat by the window and watched the storm to the south. When he went to bed, he could watch the storm to the north.

Just recently, I heard someone say, “I’m a Catholic first; then I’m a parent…”. It wasn’t even “I’m a Christian”. The specificity was telling. I think the world needs more parents focused on loving their children more than a doctrine, not on faith above the wellbeing of their children.

I’ve been thinking about whether follower numbers mean anything. I’ve seen some great people with huge followings elsewhere and nada here posting some great shit on Bluesky. It’s not the platform, it’s the lack of algorithm. A coffee shop chat is often more meaningful than a rally.

You know what’s cool? Three women whom I’ve only recently met have introduced the topic of, and discussed, menopause with me. Listening and learning is kinda cool. Too bad our healthcare system isn’t doing much of that.

I’ve spent time in Texas. It was by choice but, in the end, I chose not to continue spending time in Texas. I’ve never heard the song. That doesn’t mean I’m not exposed to a lot of other music.

Ever find yourself irrationally angry at words? Right now, I’m livid at the words “Ricci tensor”. In this moment, if I never hear those words again, I’ll be none the worse for it. But that’s only for this moment. #physics #peeves

Cut off electricity and water. Shut down any goods or services in or out of town without a negotiated trade agreement. Expect passports and then don’t recognise them. See how fast they would want to be an asylum seeker in the UK, and then tell them they’re not welcome.

That Galdiator soundtrack. Even if he turned out absolute dross for the rest of his life, that one work of art would sustain me.

My neighbourhood. My son and I chased and just missed the tornado by Tavistock but we were home when the storm went over Stratford.

If you look like you’re taking action on “self-regulation”, including looking like you’re working with governments, you buy some time from unacceptable governmental interference. It’s like Microsoft setting a red line so far past danger that it’s too late to pull back.

And yet, none of them thought to cross the street to try to help that fearless rock of a man. My wife and I had our honeymoon on the Cabot Trail where we ran into a black bear. That day I learned my wife could beat box, because she made a lot of percussive sounds but no words came out.

Have you read any of Eric Cline’s books (or watched his lectures online) about systems collapse in the late Bronze Age? He’s brilliant and his work has established a roadmap for what’s coming. Also his comparison of tin in the LBA with (initially) oil and now rare earth minerals is fascinating.

Anything of interest in these pictures from September 2, @davesills.ca? There was definitely rotation in the second picture just beyond the houses. This is the southwestern edge of Stratford, the first picture looking south, the second looking west.

I was in Calgary in 2015 and mocking some contract developers their legendary prairie storms as weak sauce. I walked to the office kitchen and noticed a tornado out the window. I rushed back to tell them but they thought I was still razzing them. :)

Otherwise known as America, NY. You mess with indigenous naming, you get tornados.

I’m sorry to say that Americans currently don’t realise a lot of things. I lived in the US for five years (1997-2002) and the bubble is nearly impenetrable.

I drove through the Tavistock area just behind the storm and there was a fair amount of tree damage and localized flooding.

It unleashed quite a Torah of water. The front looked like a big ark across the sky. Technically, I think having four koi in my pond means they went into this storm two by two.

Can someone please provide me with a coherent answer as to why CASET always suddenly fails to update when there’s severe weather, as well as a pragmatic plan to resolve that? When we most need radar data, it seems to drop. #onstorm #radar @weathernetwork.bsky.social

The notifications I got referenced a radar confirmed tornado east of Gads Hill heading toward the Baden area. That was enough for me to allow the cats and family into the basement studio. :) I’ll bet @davesills.ca is all over this.
