Just added this superb Agave victoriae-reginae to the collection. I couldn't resist it at just 19 euros (£16) for a stonking plant 20cm in diameter, from a great nursery in Perigeuex, SW France 🌱

My #favouriteplant moment of the year was definitely flying past these clouds of Oxeye Daisy and Red Valerian on my bike last May. Nothing rare or unusual, but just bright and bountiful and full of joy #wildflowerhour

This is probably my #favouriteplant of the year. It delivered that double thrill of encountering a species you’ve not seen before, and finding a new species for Anglesey. Plus it was in one of my favourite habitats to explore - urban fallow - and, to top it all, it was just stunning #wildflowerhour

After the recent rain, Common Bird’s-foot-trefoil is putting on a fabulous display along the cycle path beside the A55 near Abergwyngregyn. This is the non-native & more upright var sativa, sown along the verges in the early 1980s and still thriving #wildflowerhour

I’ve honestly searched miles of walls (by bike) this week and not found a single thing in flower. The drought has taken a terrible toll & everything’s gone into survival mode. Only a few succulents like Rock Stonecrop (Petrosedum forsterianum) remain green #WallPlants #wildflowerhour

Always nice to clock up a Vice-county first, especially when it’s as impressive as this! Dense-flowered Mullein (Verbascum densiflorum) has only ever been recorded five times in Wales so it was great to find it on rough ground at the edge of Rhosneigr, Ynys Môn (Anglesey) #Wildflowerhour

Meet Vanda falcata x curvifolia. Not sure where the spots have come from (neither parent has them) but they make it very special. I find it a real challenge to flower - it needs more water, light & heat than I can give it on my windowsills. But I'II persevere as it's such a cracking little thing.

We’re about 150 miles from the horrendous Gironde wildfire near Bordeaux, yet the smoke has reached us in north Dordogne with a strong smell of burning in the air this morning. The landscape is utterly parched, trees are literally dying on their feet & everyone’s on tenterhooks over the risk of fire
