Title card for, 'That Magical In-Between Place' Author: NifaFifa Art: Jammydormouse

An illustration of a Baltimore street that has been covered in an enormous blanket of snow. Hovering above it is a picture of a high school yearbook featuring pictures of teenaged Stede Bonnet, Mary Allamby, Nigel Badminton, and Connor Hornberry. Laying on top of the yearbook is a picture of teenaged Ed Teach. Slightly above Ed's picture is a spilled bottle of ink with a needle resting propped up against the bottle.

Drawing of Ed Teach lounging nude in bed, back facing the viewer with the sheets pooled a lil on his thigh, covering his butt. The blankets are spanning the bed, and Ed lays on 2 pillows. There is a lamp and frame hanging on the back wall. A streak of light shines on his head, back and shoulders, also on the wall and blankets. The art is done in teal hues.

“They were just two of the wildest, bored creatures on earth Fed up with work, strip bars, and loneliness galore” #OFMDfanart #OFMD

A digital drawing of Edward Teach and Stede Bonnet from Our Flag Means Death in modern clothing, standing in front of a muscle car. I think it’s an older model black Pontiac GTO. Ed is on the left, wearing a black cowboy hat and a black eather jacket over a white tank top, black flared trousers, and black boots. He has a hand in his pocket and it looking to the left side of the picture. Stede is a few feet behind him, leaning on the hood of the car. Hes also wearing a black cowboy hat and boots along with a black hanky tied round his neck. He has a loose burgundy shirt tucked into his dark blue flared jeans. The background has dirt road disappearing into the horizon, purple tinted mountains, and a pinkish yellow glowing sky.

Summary:
Ed and Stede were childhood best friends, then childhood sweethearts, then teenage lovers—and then, quite suddenly, they were nothing.

Stede's fault, he knows. He has never forgiven himself. He expects Ed hasn't, either.

What he doesn't expect is for Ed—now a famous musician, living a life far bigger than Stede or their tiny little hometown—to show up here, today, twenty-five years later. To Stede's father's funeral, of all things.

In the pool house. Of all places.

This. 100%. If you absolutely need to doom spiral right this second: log off. You’re fully entitled to feel how you feel, but skeeting “We’re so fucked” thrice daily like a Gregorian chant helps nothing and no one, including yourself. And decent odds those strangers you’re arguing with are bots.

This is the sweetest, flirtiest chapter and I am so happy I got to draw them under that massive, sparkling bar-sized chandelier. Thanks for this gentlebeard magic, @yerbamansa.bsky.social! Now everyone go read it!! #ofmdfanart #ofmd

A digital drawing of Ed and Stede sitting in plush red chairs at a reflective metal table. Stede stretches out a hand across the table to gently remove some food from Ed's beard. Ed gazes back at Stede, arms crossed casually on the table in front of him. In the background, miles of sparkling crystals from the over-size chandelier shine and reflect pink light, casting a glow onto the silhouettes of Ed and Stede.

Granted I don't know much about American ideas of the class structure in 45. But it still felt sort of like a hybrid of an American and British movie for some reason.

000

Sharon //Tresdem @tresdem.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

In that Kidd wanted to be a proper noble, but the English court etc looked down on him because he couldn't quite stop his 'common' habits. Meanwhile the good guy was actually a lord whose father did no wrong and so ofc he is accepted. Which isn't unusual but fascinating from an American studio

100

Sharon //Tresdem @tresdem.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

And I think in retrospect, I did like the acting and charm of the person who played Kidd, but it was kind of a pastiche of Long John Silver, though not quite as obsequious. Another interesting thing was the classism.

There’s a new chapter of Constellationism up, for those who like that sort of thing. It’s called ‘The Pangolin of Regret vs The Ruru of Hope’ & it’s here: archiveofourown.org/works/456174.... In it, Stede has an idea, Mary discovers the limits of her capacity for goodwill & Ed is kicked in the shin.

Gorgeous. I am sure she is going to fall for Mr. Naked Chin tho she has far better options and is not going to go feral and take the ship herself. But you know we can think on what might have been.

Black and white still, a woman with a proud face, hair pulled back with curls. She has a large necklace and a gown that is not quite off the shoulders and probably inappropriate daywaye.

He's quite handsome too. He has an earring as well not that you can see it.

Black and white still. A man with a thin mustache and a dangling earring looking up in concern. His hand is in movement as if pulling something from his mouth. He's wearing a white linen shirt opened at the neck.

Interesting thought I hadn't considered. When you're firing a cannon from a ship against another ship you have to consider the movement of the water. /takes notes

This was the dude from the tub scene earlier. And yes the sight of his horrible naked chin does disgust me.

What goes on in a hold etc etc Look I am just saying (and yeah I am all for homosocial affection without it necessarily being sexual but you know. Who can say?)

Black and white still. Two men in a tub. The man on the right with the curly hair and the beard is looking at something on the man on the left who has slicked back hair and a beard is wearing on his chest. They are both wet and covered with soap. In the background two other men are peering on curiously though the one on the far left looks far more curious than his easily explained heteronormatively.
