MASSIVE BUMBLEBEE MIGRATION! Yesterday, bird migration hotspot Breskens, the Netherlands, counted ~1000 migrating bumblebee queens in a SINGLE HOUR (trektellen.nl/count/view/1...). More on this extraordinary phenomenon: besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... @trektellen.bsky.social

We slightly changed the position of the photos on the count page. We hope you like this better then the previous position in the side bar. Looking forward to your flight-shots!

Like London buses, my second paper published in the space of a week! Working on the (substantial) impacts of HPAI on seabirds, it was fascinating to find that population changes in some of the hardest-hit species are reflected in @trektellen.bsky.social seawatch counts. dx.doi.org/10.1080/0006...

Impacts of highly pathogenic avian influenza on seabird populations in the North Sea are detectable in sea-watchers’ migration counts
Sea-watching counts provided evidence of declines in abundance of four seabird species during autumn migration, which were consistent with the timing of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) out...

It was good to see a few Little Auk passing the Lincs coast last week, even if only a fraction of the counts recorded further north! A decent supporting cast too, with divers, ducks and kittiwake on the move. Full counts from Mablethorpe on @trektellen.bsky.social
