In D&D 2024, you can now paralyze an Ancient Red Dragon without it having to fail a saving throw A Warlock's Quasit familiar can inflict the Poisoned condition on hit, without a save. A summoned Undead Spirit can Paralyze a Poisoned creature on hit, without a save either.

Writing Tip: I can never repeat enough that all writers should have a saved copy of their work that isn't on the web/cloud. As safe as you think it might be, outages happen. Technology can glitch. A tester’s job is to identify issues, not solutions. (For projects that have them, part of a playtest coordinator's job is to act as a filter and make sure that only the issues and not the design ideas go on the bug sheet.)

These are all "moderate difficulty" encounters according to the 2024 DMG According to the 2014 DMG, they would be respectively "medium", "deadly", and "deadly" So, it's not like what we had was very good, but this is a step back imo

First encounter: 4 level 5 adventurers vs 1 earth elemental myrmidon. They win easily

Second encounter: same adventurers, vs 3 ettins. It's a challenging battle.

Third encounter: same adventurers, vs 6 allosauruses. It's almost a total party kill.

If you're on Drivethrurpg, there's now a way to filter out AI / set your games as handmade. To batch set your games as handmade, go to Title Management, then Batch Add / Remove Filters. You'll have to click a bunch of boxes, but it's way better than going game page by game page.
