Another Lascaux horse. From last Autumn.
Framed relief sculpture of a horse, based on the axial gallery of the Lascaux. The horse is yellow, with an orange neck/face. It starts on the left/hindquarters as a cave painting and then becomes more three dimensional to the right/front. The background of the relief is textured to look rock-like. There are various painted lines around the horse including two that look like feathers, and 4 parallel lines above. Framed relief sculpture of a horse, based on the axial gallery of the Lascaux. For someone who hasn’t touched a miniature for 15-odd years, I’m quite pleased with how this little knight turned out! It’s from the Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic starter kit, and it’s surprisingly hard to photograph tiny plastic guys well. I’m hooked, gonna make dioramas!
Photo of the plastic miniature knight figure from the Army Painter’s beginner kit, painted by me and propped up on a spice jar. It’s a pretty generic 28mm medieval knight in armour, painted with silver armour and blue and red livery. Another photo of the knight miniature, this time standing on some chipboard and a slightly different angle.

CW: Eating Disorder Fat shaming doesn't work 🙅🚫 somehow I hadn't posted this here yet! (1 of 2) #OldBearComics #TheBearMinimum
Text reads: I'd like to talk about fat shaming and how it doesn't work. I've been above average weight all my life and been shamed for it by peers, elders, family and strangers alike.
Art depicts: wicked shadowy figures loom around holly, judging and chastising her as she stands looking embarrased and trying to cover her belly.Text reads: You know what it got me? A cripplingly poor self-image and eating disorder... I'd bet money that many people who experience fat shaming end up the same way.
Art depicts: Holly bear bent over with her head in the toilet couching as if she had just vomited.Text reads: Sure a small portion of people might turn their anger and spite into motivation to loose weight. More likely they will internalize that disgust and turn it on themselves.
Art depicts: Holly lifting weights in front of a mirror, her reflection is a shadowy wicked version of herself who sneers and says 'Work harder Fatass' at which she gets angry and yells at it to 'Shut the fuck up!'Text reads: What does it do for anyone, but give an outlet to your personal disgust, at having to see someone -you- don't find aesthetically pleasing? Mocking fat people for existing does nothing but hurt them and make you look cruel.
Art depicts: Holly bear glowering and making a gesture of frustration

Been meaning to do a Pelinal & Huna art for the last few years, intended this to be a little less edgy originally but I was running out of steam and the darker tone was an easier sell to me. #tes #theelderscrolls #tesfanart
Fanart of the Divine Crusader Pelinal Whitestrake from The Elder Scrolls lore, haunted by the memory of his slain lover, the hoplite Huna.
The knight stands central, the armour glowing colourfully, mid donning of his helmet. Huna stands in the background behind Pelinal, shrouded in shadow and lit in reds and golds over a chaotic red and grey background.

I'm not saying be willfully ignorant. I'm not saying pretend horrible things aren't happening. I'm saying don't destroy your mental health going in-depth and cycling through horror after horror on your phone. I'm saying there is no virtue in making yourself experience other people's traumas because mere awareness is not activism. you inflicting suffering on yourself is not activism.
doomscrolling is literally sapping your energy and focus away from doing anything useful to help other people. you can burn yourself out without ever lifting a finger by exposing yourself to all the bad news in the world and who does that help? no one.

When they first met the Portiids, they did not reach any Understanding. Photo from the page The Weird Explorer on FB, who says they found it on eBay, no further context. I suspect the artist was illustrating a story told to him verbally, by a guy in a bar. “And the spiders were THIS big!”
Black and white illustration of four crazed-looking cowboys facing off against an army of spiders the size of rats. The caption says “We fired volley after volley”. It looks like it’s from the 1800’s. Cowboy on the left looks like his eyes are about to pop out of his head, and I wish I had more context but I don’t.

A moment of concentration immortalized in stone some 4,500 years ago! This scribe statue was skilfully sculpted from limestone. His lifelike eyes are made of rock crystal and calcite, outlined with copper. Old Kingdom, Dynasty 5, from Saqqara. Egyptian Museum, Cairo 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a skilfully sculpted limestone statue of a youthful scribe sitting cross-legged with an open papyrus-roll on his knees, his right hand would have held a reed pen, now missing. The limestone was originally painted and traces of reddish brown paint still remain on the statue’s bare chest, and black pigment on the wig. The realistic eyes are made of rock crystal and calcite, lined with copper. Height 51 cms. From an Old Kingdom tomb at Saqqara. Dynasty 5, c. 2465-2323 BC. On display at the old Egyptian Museum in Cairo. My photo was taken in 2022.

Egyptian Museum info:
‘’During the Old Kingdom officials often commissioned statues for their tombs depicting themselves as scribes. Only a small percentage of the population was literate and therefore the ability to read and write opened up possibilities for economic and social advancement. Individuals desired to retain their status in the afterlife and so they were careful to include images in their tombs that reflected their status and their abilities. The standard scribal pose includes the legs crossed beneath a partially spread roll of papyrus. The right hand is positioned to hold a reed pen. Those who were literate possessed the power to make something exist by putting it into writing or by repeating written words. Repetition of the offering lists in a tomb would magically supply the deceased with all that they desired. This exceptionally beautiful scribe statue is uninscribed; the name of the subject, therefore, remains unknown.

A friend just sent me this perfect piece by Karel Čapek, trans. Dora Round, ‘From the Point of View of a Cat’.
From the Point of View of a Cat
This is my Man. I am not afraid of him. He is very strong, for he eats a great deal; he is an Eater of All Things. What are you eating? Give me some!
He is not beautiful, for he has no fur. Not having enough saliva, he has to wash himself with water. He meows in a harsh voice and a great deal more than necessary. Sometimes in his sleep he purrs.
Let me out!
I don’t know how he has made himself Master; perhaps he has eaten something sublime.
He keeps my rooms clean for me.
In his paws he carries a sharp black claw and he scratches with it on white sheets of paper. That is the only game he plays. He sleeps at night instead of by day, he cannot see in the dark, he has no pleasures. He never thinks of blood, never dreams of hunting or fighting; he never sings songs of love.
Often at night when I can hear mysterious and magic voices, when I can see that the darkness is all alive, he sits at the table with his head bent and goes on and on, scratching with his black claw on the white papers. Don’t imagine that I am at all interested in you. I am only listening to the soft whispering of your claw. Sometimes the whispering is silent, the poor dull head does not know how to go on playing, and then I am sorry for him and I meow softly in sweet and sharp discord. Then my Man picks me up and buries his hot face in my fur. At those times he divines for an instant a glimpse of a higher life, and he sighs with happiness and purrs something which can almost be understood.
But don’t think that I am at all interested in you. You have warmed me, and now I will go out again and listen to the dark voices.
Translated by Dora Round; revised by the editor. Originally published in Intimate Things, 1935.
