Patients w/ higher socioeconomic marginalization and w/o family doctors were more likely to seek concussion care in ER depts rather than outpatient clinics. Those patients, particularly w/o family doctors, were less likely to receive follow-up care within 30 days of first visit.

📋Why this matters: Using the updated ACRM criteria may help identify more concussions, especially in people with fewer symptoms. This could lead to more consistent diagnoses and timely care. Read the article here: doi.org/10.1097/HTR....

TRANSCENDENT Concussion Research Program @transcendentkt.bsky.social · 16/10/2025
Key Results: 🥼Doctors were more cautious than the new criteria 📊In ~18% of cases, doctors were less likely to suspect a concussion diagnosis 🧠Underdiagnosis was more likely when patients had lower symptom severity 🕐Patients seen sooner after their injury received more definitive concussion diagnoses

TRANSCENDENT Concussion Research Program @transcendentkt.bsky.social · 16/10/2025
Our research team applied these criteria to more than 1,400 patients seen at 360 Concussion Care clinics across Ontario. We compared the results to how doctors made their diagnoses using clinical judgment.

New Publication Alert from our team! In 2023, the ACRM updated how concussions (also called mild traumatic brain injuries) are diagnosed. These new criteria look at how the injury happened, what signs and symptoms are present, and the results of medical tests.
