The Museum's track no longer connects to any main lines, so we can't ship equipment by rail. It all has to come via trucks. But how in the world do you get a train car onto a trailer? BIG trucks with even BIGGER cranes! #NRM #TrainMuseum #railroads #trains

Massive crane in the parking lot of the Railway History Campus, it is carrying a truck trailer to place it near the tracks. Rather than maneuvering the trailer through the gate, we moved it with the crane over the fence to expedite the process!

The Silver Bullet suspended on one end by the crane. The trucks have been rolled out from underneath on this end so the car is just free-floating.

Later in the process, the front half of the trailer is backed into place by the truck driver while the crane keeps the front half of the car in the air.

Mice are inevitable nearly anywhere a structure exists. They will always find some comfortable nook to nestle down in. This juvenile deer mouse was evicted by staff and relocated into the woods. Just look at that cute little fuzzy face, not a thought going on in that head! #NRM #WildlifeWednesdays

A Douglas squirrel munching on a seed cone. It is balanced on a thin branch. It is a dark brown with an orange-hued belly. This species is known for being very vocal and yelling/squeaking endlessly at anyone it perceives as a threat or a trespasser, so it is unusual to have one calmly eating a snack with humans standing only a few feet below.

Last Summer, Museum staff put up a trail camera over a weekend to see what wildlife paid us a visit. In such a short time frame, only the elk passed through, but they stuck around for a while! #WildlifeWednesdays #elk #NRM #TrainMuseum #deer #PNW #animals

This may look similar to the other, but there are a few key differences! This one doesn't have open eyes and there are still a lot of visible pinfeathers with the keratin sheath around them. A nestling dark-eyed junco on the deck outside the Railway Education Center on the Railway History Campus. It is very close to fledgling, but still has a lot of the white keratin sheathing around its tail and flight feathers. Less visible from this angle is that the bird's eyes are still closed. This one should not have left the nest yet, but could not be returned due to the nest being far too high up.
