Thank you @traceyrhys.bsky.social for your kind words. BLACK SKIES DIE STARLESS comes out in 10 days. Pre-order from PunkDust.com or ask your local bookshop. @jamiewoods77.bsky.social is reading at Elysium Swansea on June 26th, more dates tba. #NewPoetry #WelshPoetry #BlackSkiesDieStarless
It's an advert for a book. On the left is a quote. It says "Ominous with small-town despair, Jamie Woods' Black Skies Die Starless is a stylish coming of age take, set in the 1990s. Punky and unfettered. Intense and cinematic. So evocative, a reader might glimpse themselves in the passenger seat of the next car at the red lights; spliff in hand, head back, blocking out the best years of their lives. Tracey Rhys"On the right are stylised words - Punk Dust Poetry, Black Skies Die Starless, Jamie Woods, 1st July 2025, punkdust.com and all good bookshops. In the background is a photo of a young man looking naive and lost.

Many disabled people spent 14 years holding on, surviving Tory cruelty, by focusing on 'if we can just get a Labour gov, this will stop'. I can't describe the community's betrayal and hopelessness now it's turned out Labour not only haven't stopped, they're going further. #WelfareNotWarfare 1/

I've made a late-night recording (it was 11pm so I do look a bit knackered) of one of my poems from the new collection. This one is about multiple miscarriages so bear that in mind if you feel it might upset you. youtu.be/2P1qQhMQY3E?...

"Oxwich doesn’t wave its past in your face; it lets you stumble upon it. What it is, is a gentle, constant presence – a place that lets the bay and the cliffs do all the shouting while it leans back, waiting for you to notice just how much it has to say."

The ghosts of the starlings.
Bird shaped cloud formations in a morning sky, the sun rising behind, the winged shapes seemingly in flight. Treetops in silhouette.

One of the best ways to improve your own #poetry is to read other people's. I've really enjoyed the inventiveness & imagination in @janeburn.bsky.social 's new collection 'The Apothecary of Flight' published by @ninearchespress.bsky.social Here's a snippet from a poem I love. Congrats, Jane.

Here in Aotearoa it's Trans Day Of Remembrance. Every year, we light the candle Cate was gifted in Thailand, pour love & memory into the flicker & smoke, let it reach the dead. And we cry. This year, in the current shadow, more than ever. Friends, how we love you. Stay with us, any way you can.
A candle with three wicks, all alight. Its edge, picked opaque with light, is a green wax leaf with distinct veins, as if the whole is wrapped in foliage. The centre with the wicks is pale orange. To the right of the candle is laid a deep red rose. Strong shadows lend this picture solemnity and quiet.

For poets & artists, Bluesky right now feels like a family reunion, but a mythical one you *actually want to go to* & by this I even mean us introverts, a double miracle.
A view of very blue, calm sea shallows, and hints of blue sky, through a straggly pōhutukawa branch horizontalling the top half of the picture. Pale rocks jut from the water in a herd, like a family of volcanic tortoises. The creamy sand of the sea floor is visible at the edge around the rocks, submerged in utterly clear water, undisturbed by light ripples.

Out down the lane then up to the field where the frost is already beginning to thaw. A flock of curlews lifting from the stubble field, small kestrel in the bare bones of an oak. Stubble frozen at the field edges, everything perfected by the frost. #noticings

Hello! It's good here, isn't it? Feels like the final scene in Logan's Run, where that weird civilisation is breaking down, boulders flying & inexplicable explosions. Then, all these folk in pleasing primary colours discover that there's another way to co-exist - why, it's Bluesky for writers!
