Daniel @torkar.studio · 13/05/2026It was a pain until I changed our videos to be Bink. Then suddenly it worked all the time on all platforms. Anything else would either stutter, only audio, only video, or desync, or just straight up crash. 020
Daniel @torkar.studio · 06/04/2026I really enjoyed ViewFinder, it's not long, and has a very unique puzzle mechanic. 030
Daniel @torkar.studio · 31/03/2026There's also still a bus lane going along the canal by the way. There is still a road, just a lot smaller. 010
Daniel @torkar.studio · 31/03/2026Probably not, but that's not because this road is turned mostly into a canal. It's because all of the Netherlands has a housing crisis. In the last ten years some of the houses have doubled in price. 210
Daniel @torkar.studio · 31/03/2026Nowadays they have to walk/bike 5 minutes max, and then take the bus or train. That's pretty much the same. 110

Daniel @torkar.studio · 18/03/2026Tricky Towers has done very well and is fine... So I doubt anything would happen. 000
Daniel @torkar.studio · 11/03/2026Well there's Bálatro or Balátro. Cilantro is Cilántro I think? So it would then become Cílantro if you'd flip it. But I'm not sure what the approved Balatro pronunciation is. 110
Daniel @torkar.studio · 03/03/2026Going to GDC next week, if anyone wants to meet for whatever reason, hit me up! I am mostly interested in Unreal, PCG, Optimization, maybe some Graphics Programming. Also generally I just like making games, I love to hear any development stories. 000
Daniel @torkar.studio · 04/02/2026This looks amazing, how heavy is and how adjustable is the quality? 100
Daniel @torkar.studio · 27/11/2025Could you have the particles write to a stencil value and not have the AO apply there? 120

Reposted by Danieldoctober @docseuss.bsky.social · 04/08/2025Hey! New article! This one's about the history of first person shooters, what makes 'em work, and why I like the shooters I like. It's also me lamenting how they've died, and talking a bit about why I want to go ahead and make one. docseuss.medium.com/first-person...docseuss.medium.comfirst person shooters are extremely fun, but the industry rarely makes the ones i like anymoreThere’s something about that anticipation as your dropship passes over open ocean and the fighting on the beach comes into view… 56875365
Daniel @torkar.studio · 30/07/2025Unreal 5 CVar tip: Slate.GameLayer.PlayerCanvasVisible Slate.GameLayer.ViewportSlotVisible Slate.GameLayer.DebugCanvasVisible Slate.GameLayer.AllCanvasesVisible These let you easily hide all/some of the UI, for a photomode, getting trailer shots, or whatever else you want! 030
Daniel @torkar.studio · 28/07/2025Can't easily do this in Unreal since they started using double precision for location. What a worthless engine. 040
Daniel @torkar.studio · 16/07/202590Hz, but it dynamically adjusts based on the app, and I can set it to 120Hz if I want to. 000
Daniel @torkar.studio · 09/07/2025Looking good! The train doesn't have to be a fast one right? Maybe you can add speed lines to increase the perceived speed? 🤡 000
Daniel @torkar.studio · 30/06/2025@wiredproductions.com maybe these guys want to help out? Good experience with them, and they love games. 010
Daniel @torkar.studio · 27/06/2025Made a start on a sequel to the first game I've ever made before I was a professional. Now i have the skills to do it in 3D and with multiplayer: 000
Daniel @torkar.studio · 26/06/2025For cleanliness, I think you can use a Component Mask to get the RG/XY only and then just do a distance node. 110

Daniel @torkar.studio · 03/06/2025If you for some reason still want to try some math without recompiling, the MathExpression node is pretty useful for me sometimes: dev.epicgames.com/documentatio...dev.epicgames.comMath Expression Node in Unreal Engine | Unreal Engine 5.6 Documentation | Epic Developer CommunityThe math expression node allows you to type in a math expression and builds the appropriate sub-graph to create that expression. 110
Daniel @torkar.studio · 03/06/2025That's a great result! Smart thinking with the whole setup, love it. 010
Daniel @torkar.studio · 02/06/2025Optimizing your game is an environmentally conscious activity and can save a ton of greenhouse gases. Also add a frame limiter, and stop rendering your 3D world behind full screen UI. SetEnableWorldRendering(bool) in Unreal. 100
Daniel @torkar.studio · 19/05/2025It's a top down projection of the area you designate it to, and you can sample the RVT in any material, such as a UI minimap. You can have multiple outputs, like color, masks, normals or whatever you need. The materials will write to it based on values going to the Runtime Virtual Texture Output. 100
Daniel @torkar.studio · 19/05/2025Is there a reason you can't use an RVT? That gives a relatively easy to use output in the material that will only render into there, whilst keeping the regular rendering intact. 100
Daniel @torkar.studio · 25/04/2025Story of my working life, although I still don't understand or have even tried to use the subtitle system... 010
Daniel @torkar.studio · 25/04/2025That's rough, good luck on your quest of achieving such a simple thing as 'add outlines to text'. 😂 120
Daniel @torkar.studio · 25/04/2025Does the outline affect the character width? If not dors rendering that once and then the original text without outlines fix it? 100
Daniel @torkar.studio · 17/04/2025In Unreal you can make specific nodes Development only with hotkeys. Go into your editor preferences and search for Nodes. You'll see entries for Enable Nodes (Always) and Enable Nodes (Development). I've set them to ctrl alt A and ctrl alt D. Enjoy! ✨ #Unreal #Blueprint 272
Daniel @torkar.studio · 17/04/2025Tiny little shader thing: if you want to add components of a vector together, you can just dot product it with a vector of all 1's. Not always faster or slower, but especially in shader/material graphs I feel it looks better. 020
Daniel @torkar.studio · 29/03/2025Performance stats ✨🤷♂️ I guess if you're not targeting mobile/switch it's going to be fine. 010
Daniel @torkar.studio · 28/03/202537 texture lookups might be a bigger problem with the gimped memory buses on GPUs these days 👀 100
