Bei den Grünen ist der Prozentsatz allerdings leicht irreführend: der Großteil der Gegenstimmen kam von Volt, die mit den Grünen in der Fraktion sitzen, eigentlich haben also fast alle Grünen für die Verschiebung gestimmt (bei den deutschen Grünen dagegen aber die stabilen MEPs Freund & Lagodinsky)

To clarify: The Commission can decide to make Mercosur apply provisionally, but that would violate the „gentlemen’s agreement“ on cooperation between the EP and the Commission (and be problematic from a democratic point of view). Due to geopolitical situation they would have good reasons though.

But provisional application does mean that the Commission has to ignore the interinstitutional agreement on cooperation with the Parliament - meaning the vote demonstrates first and foremost Parliament's weakness and the lack of democratic scrutiny on trade.

Weil man offensichtlich der Meinung ist, dass das Abkommen ja trotzdem vorläufig anwendbar sein kann. Stimmt, nur muss die Kommission dafür die gerade erst verbesserten Regeln für die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Parlament brechen. Die grüne Position bedeutet de facto die Schwächung des Parlaments.

Green hypocrisy over the Mercosur vote is astonishing. You can vote against the agreement OR want it be implemented, but not both. For the Commission to ignore the EP will also mean overriding the interinstitutional agreement on cooperation, weakening the EP's role and democratic scrutiny on trade.

Wasch mir den Pelz, aber mach mich nicht nass. Erst gegen das Abkommen stimmen, um dann die Anwendung zu fordern - das ist der Gipfel der Schizophrenie. Da gibt es nichts zu beschönigen: Eine Fehlentscheidung die Geschenk für Trump, Schwächung unserer Souveränität und des Parlaments ist. Toll.

So far, Europe's response to the polycrisis (cf. @adamtooze.bsky.social) has been reactive. The EU is responding, not shaping. That lack of agency sparks pessimism. But the secret sauce of liberal values is their power to inspire. Europe needs to go on the offensive: Make liberalism great again!

Good news: we managed to defeat the EPP attempt to weaken global protection of human rights, environment and climate. 🥳 The @theprogressives.bsky.social led a progressive majority to support the new reporting standards and ensured that companies have legal certainty implementing them.

The EPP is trying to kill the Sustainability Reporting Standards today. If they succeed, they will create legal uncertainty for companies on CSRD implementation. This is not about "unnecessary bureaucracy", but about sabotaging global due diligence laws and protection of human rights & environment.

Some initial observations on Bluesky: 1. Reposts amplify a message far better than likes, 2. Replies also get shown in people's feeds by default (though you can turn that off), 3. Be wary of fake accounts (if you can, use your web domain to verify yourselves)
