How cool! I've paddled the Bronx River in NYC. A river otter was spotted in the Bronx River for the first time in over 100 years! Because otters need clean water and abundant fish to thrive, this sighting hints at the waterway’s ecological recovery from being treated as a dumping ground.

Time Traveler Causes of Death xkcd.com/2976/
A modified XKCD comic titled "TOP CAUSES OF DEATH FOR TIME TRAVELERS BY GEOLOGIC ERA:" features a tall, vertical rectangle representing Earth's timeline from its formation down to the present day. Along the left axis, tick marks indicate time intervals from "EARTH FORMS" at the top down through "4 BILLION YEARS AGO," "3 BILLION YEARS AGO," "2 BILLION YEARS AGO," "1 BILLION YEARS AGO," "500 MILLION YEARS AGO," and ending at "NOW" at the bottom. The vertical column is divided into stacked sections labeling the leading cause of death for each period: beginning at the top with "LAVA," followed by a section for "ASPHYXIATION," a thin band for "METEORS," a large section for "ASPHYXIATION," an even larger block spanning roughly 2.2 billion to 700 million years ago labeled "SLIGHTLY SLOWER ASPHYXIATION," and then smaller bands near the bottom labeled "FREEZING," "STARVING," "EATEN BY FISH," "TRAMPLED," and "EATEN BY MAMMALS." Next to the very bottom sliver representing the present day, an arrow points to the text "HIT BY SUV."

Give the assist for this roster selection to the US commercial airline industry. Balogun was still in utero when his mother visited New York on vacation, but the return trip never happened as the airline refused to let her board the plane due to the size of her belly and how close she was to giving birth. As it happened, Balogun was born in Brooklyn and was off to London months later, where he fell in love with football and came up through the Arsenal academy. Now one of the most promising strikers in Europe, "Flo" is expected to lead the line for the USA, using his speed, tactical awareness, and deft finishing touch to give his birth country something to cheer about.

NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover took this selfie on Oct. 25, 2020, after drilling a rock sample from a spot nicknamed “Mary Anning.” After years of extensive analysis, the sample has revealed the greatest diversity of organic molecules ever found on Mars.

JPL's press release calls this planet a "cold Earth" because it orbits right at the icy edge of its habiable zone. I didn't go with that framing because we literally only know this guy's radius and rough orbital period. And with the right (wrong?) atmosphere it could still actually be Venus-hot.
