Stephen Miller thinks we live in a ‘real world … that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power.’ (NYT, article by Katie Rogers, 6 Jan 2026) He has a point. But he misunderstand the nature of power and America’s place in the world. 🧵1/6

My favorite thing about reading history books far outside of my field is how frequently those books feed back into my own work, often giving me ideas about things I’m working on.

I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight www.cityam.com/the-british-...

The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care?
The widespread indifference to the British Library's crippling cyberattack demonstrates a perilous failure to value the knowledge infrastructure vital for national prosperity

That's probably the end of my pilot's career then.
Simon Jones, of Willington in Bedfordshire, had to be handcuffed after shouting, swearing and pacing up and down the cabin during the flight on 23 May, a court heard.
