Eh, Lá Bas! I love this band (literally, as these are 2 of my sons) and they’re performing at the Ferndale (MI) Harvest Festival next Saturday! The festival is on Livernois between Marshfield & Fielding from noon-9pm. Lá Bas (+tuba & drums) performs at 8:30pm, closing it out in style.

A visit to the Boblo Museum. Boblo Island was a popular Detroit-area destination from 1910 to the 1990s, with an amusement park & public facilities on the Canadian side of the Detroit River. The museum is housed on one of the steam ferries that transported people from both countries to the island.

Boblo Boat museum, on the deck of the former S.S. St. Clair, one of the boats. A poster from 1946 advertising the 97th year of the St. Andrews Society Scottish Games, which took place every summer on Boblo Island. It’s located on the southern end of the Detroit River near Lake Erie on the Canadian side, but those were different times. The Scottish Games are still held annually but are now located in Livonia, MI, a suburb of Detroit.

Another Scottish Games Boblo poster, advertising “a braw lot of laddies.” Interestingly, sometimes it’s spelled with a hyphen, Bob-Lo, and sometimes as all one word. The older lit tends to hyphenate more, but it’s never been consistent.

Some family members looking at the museum exhibits. It needs a better curator, but it’s a good start and I’m glad they’ve saved one of the boats.

I love the painterly effect you can get from just a touch of ICM. More #bluebells from a pretty little wood near #Berkhamsted - my entry for this week's #ShareMondays2026 :)

New leaves sprinkled over a bluebell carpet with trees behind and backlit by the sun just before sunset. The shutter speed was slowed down a little (to 1/2 a second) to get the slight intentional camera movement (ICM) and painterly effect on the bluebells and leaves.
