TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I agree that he probably meant it that way generally, but he chose Los Angeles and San Diego as examples as a sort of theoretical punishment for not supporting him and the war. Which is kinda just as bad! 070

TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Then again, he did lose twice. In reading the comments on that video, someone wrote that a supporter once told Stevenson “You’ve got the vote of every thinking person in this country,” and he replied “I’m going to need a lot more than that.” Incredible lol. 1110
TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 02/10/2026l've always loved this one with puns on "Stevenson." And I love that there was a time when a candidate would position himself as a civilian vs a military guy (Eisenhower) as a strength. It used to be mainstream to think retired generals being politicians was concerning. youtu.be/MxYDTTNYMic?...youtu.beAdlai Stevenson 1952 campaign adYouTube video by campaignpundit 261
TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I do think he’ll try something, but it’s likely to have a small impact, no impact, or even backfire. I think in that small impact scenario, he could still do real damage, which is why I say I’m a bit more pessimistic. But I don’t think there’s a chance of a scenario where most elections are affected 110
TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 02/10/2026High! I’m a bit more pessimistic than most on that, but ultimately our elections are controlled at the state and local level, under thousands of independent jurisdictions. AFAIK the most Trump could do is send ICE to a (relatively) small # of polling places and/or challenge some results in court. 210
TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Like they’re all going to be giving speeches and doing rallies constantly, almost certainly being WAY more forceful and clear eyed than Schumer/Jeffries. They’re going to have to if they want to win the primaries. And I hope that’ll be galvanizing and boost morale for the following two years. 0220
TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Something rattling around my head lately is the hope that, in addition to the midterms (god willing) delivering a blow to the admin that the media can’t ignore, the 2028 prez candidates will become de facto leaders of the opposition and fill the spiritual role left empty by Schumer and Jeffries. 2340

TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Yes! I recently saw a few clips of him speaking and it was the sort of moderate version of the Nixon/AES style. He's nailed that "just telling it like it is" style. 010
TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 01/10/2026While “I believe in this because it helps xyz people” is great and laudatory, I think doesn’t register as genuine with the median voter. “I believe in this because that’s what my morals/experience tell me” is the more plainspoken and easier to grasp framing. 1110
TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Her and AES both certainly workshop and practice everything they say a million times, but it sounds natural and genuine because they are speaking as themselves. I think that’s how we can mirror the right’s appeal to authenticity without compromising our values. 2180
TomTom @tomtomchi.bsky.social · 01/10/2026The most pleasant surprise of this midterm campaign for me is Angie Nixon coming out of nowhere (for non-Floridians) to be one of the most refreshing and effective rhetorical fighters against Repubs. Like El-Sayed, she says what she means and does it from her personal POV. (“ordinary man”=JD Vance) 1421
