I love Star! It’s such a cool way to do five player games that have interesting politics and don’t leave knocked out players hanging as long. Only thing I don’t love about it is that matchups can end up VERY lopsided if, say, two aggro decks share a slower opponent.

After 9 years at IGN this is the last video I edited: m.youtube.com/watch?v=nStf... 3 people, including me, who worked on this video were laid off, with out notice, just a couple hours after publishing it. It was an honor to work with them and so many others at IGN impacted by these layoffs.

Hey! So after seventeen and a half years, October 2nd will be my last day at IGN. It was genuinely a dream come true to do this thing for so long alongside some of the most talented people on earth. I got to travel the world, meet my heroes, and make a ton of really fun shows and videos. An honor ♥️

Well friends, that's it for me. This week IGN let me go, effective immediately. It's been a pleasure talking about movies and TV and to anybody that's read/watched/laughed at any of my work on IGN and CineFix over the years, here's a heartfelt thank you to contrast the grimace in this picture.

We are tired of posting statements like these.
Today was an awful day at IGN. We were blindsided by the layoff of four union members and many more people across the organization who contributed years of their careers to making IGN an unparalleled voice in games and entertainment.

With each successive layoff, core parts of IGN’s operation continue to be stripped away. Today, IGN has decided to do away with many of our talented producers, editors, hosts, and other crucial roles, both within and out of the union. How many layoffs will occur before we no longer recognize the company we work for and the content that we make?

While we recognize the challenges the media industry is facing as a whole, it is difficult to understand how laying off valuable employees better positions us to meet those challenges. In turn, remaining employees bear additional workloads worsened by anxiety over the ever-looming threat of another layoff.

We are devastated, angry, and heartbroken for our colleagues.

My theory is every Zelda gets an “it was bad actually” moment because that series is specifically designed to inspire wonder as you play. That feeling fades more quickly, so folk looking back focus on mechanics, not realizing they are adult Peter Pan angry at the Lost Boys for eating pretend food.

Wouldn’t that have basically no effect outside of bracket 5 (and maybe high 4)? The advantage of going earlier isn’t just playing your sol ring/etc before other players, it’s being the first to untap and make use of that setup - so by turn 2, player 4 is right back where they would have been, right?

Tom Marks @tomrmarks.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Yeah, I don’t know what a larger solution to this issue is exactly, but at the very least it feels like we have more than enough data to say “player 1 still draws on turn 1” does not make any sense whatsoever.

My hot take answer is the 2DS. The DS and 3DS libraries were absolutely stacked, and the 2DS gave you access to that entire backlog for a shockingly low $80 after its price drop. If the 3DS eShop hadn’t been killed, that genuinely might be a deal I’d still recommend in 2026.

Is Magic past the point of no return when it comes to seismic shift rule changes that could be good for the game overall but would be massive to actually enact, such as errata-ing Instant to be a subtype of Sorcery? My assumption is changes like that will just simply never happen, beneficial or not.

The thing that bugs me is the trend of it not being banned and Sol Ring not at least being a game changer basically means any egregious card can get a pass as long as action isn’t taken for so long that it clears some “iconic” threshold which makes it controversial to touch. Feels self-fulfilling.

This one was me! I think Thick as Thieves is really cool, especially as a co-op game, and I loved playing it. I wish there was more to do, and there are a couple of frustrating elements to it because of the Hauntstables (Ghost cops who are bastards even in death), but it's a blast in co-op.

Commander only works because everyone pretends it does. It basically requires roleplaying to function in the way many folk socially expect it to (outside of high-power stuff), and that can be very fun! But it also means it’s fundamentally unfit to be Magic’s load-bearing, FNM-style staple format.
