Dust jacket wouldn't work with the set though, we'd taken it from a grandparents house because they look nice all together & hadn't read many of hers.
A row of red leather Agatha Christies, almost all of which aren't racist. I think. I've not read them yet. Oh gods...

Terry pratchett occupies the row below. I didn't need to mention that, but I like that he's made it to the living room at last

Next up on the reading pile - having failed to actually go there when we were on holiday in the area, I remembered this was on our shelves! Having been underwhelmed by The Turn of the Screw, I could do with a good solid read now & BC usually delivers

Now this isn't a page I look at often, and while I'm not pleased to see it's been a bad KNEP month for my books, I'm fascinated by the person who read page 1 of Devil In The Vicarage and noped out. Had they not read Devil Inside? Was it the Batman joke? Do they dislike clumsy MCs?

There's a hole in my house.
There’s a hole in my house,
One I don’t need to walk around, but I still do.
For a few more months I will, I’m sure.
I see it most in the quiet moments.
Blurred in the corners of my eye,
Or heavy and sad, down by the radiator.
Saying good morning in my head as I don’t open the back door.
And when I don’t trip at all, last thing at night.
I left something behind as I went for a walk today,
With bags I don’t need in every pocket.
But the hole came with me,
Trailing behind as if I couldn’t see it still, and
Bigger than ever out in that field.
From time to time I fall in it, the hole.
It hurts when I do.
Together we’ll fill it in slowly.
Though the shape will remain, the outline always visible.
One day, it’ll be smoothed over at least,
But today, I’ve fallen in again.

Slightly more UF/paranormal romance version?
My name is Eve Carnell, I’m 29 years old, single and… well, my life fell apart when I was sixteen. I’ve been putting the pieces back together ever since, but now? I have a job, a home and even my love life might be turning around.

So the last thing I need is a government agent to come around asking questions about my family – particularly if she’s gorgeous and slightly scary. But I also really don’t want to say no to helping her.

After all, what’s the worst that could happen when they’re hunting spies and I’ve got secrets of my own?

And if you need a reminder about the book: "My name is Eve Carnell. I’m 29 years old, single and have a devil in me. It’s not as cool as you might think."
Devil Inside: Book 1 of the Devil Diaries:
My name is Eve Carnell. I’m 29 years old, single and have a devil in me. It’s not as cool as you might think.

My entire world fell apart when I was sixteen. Now all I want is a normal life, but that’s not easy when you’re on every “usual suspects” list going. And normal goes out the window the day MI5 come to ask me about my dead grandfather. They’re hunting a spy and while I may be the absolute worst choice for the job, apparently I have a very particular set of skills. Who knew, right?

Something bad lurks in the leafy heart of Surrey. Well yes, obviously there’s Guildford, but that’s not what I...

Okay, fine – there’s another horror lurking in the depths of Surrey. When I receive a cryptic phone call one morning, it’s my new life as a gentlewoman-wizard calling. The Carnells may be unpopular and almost extinct, but apparently one of us still has a duty.

My destination? Winterfold Vicarage in the village of Cranleigh. My task? Unknown, but how could sending me of all people to a vicarage possibly go badly? Yes, obviously apart from me being slightly possessed by a devil?
