Early this month, a wily coyote swam across San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz. He was in such rough shape, observers thought he’d probably die, but he’s been snacking on birds and rodents and was recently observed fat as a pickle. [sfstandard.com]

A data-driven mosaic of our warming planet - now updated through 2025 🥵 Download graphic at zacklabe.com/climate-chan...
Heat map-style graphic showing monthly mean global surface air temperature anomalies from January 1850 to December 2025. There is a long-term warming trend evident in each month. Blue shading is shown for colder months, and red shading is shown for warmer months. Annotations are shown for the year of each warmest respective month. All of these records have occurred within the 2023 to 2025 period in this dataset. Anomalies here are calculated relative to a 1850-1900 baseline. Data is from NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI NOAAGlobalTemp 6.0.0.

Rode my bike through the Panhandle, along JFK Promenade and through the park to Sunset Dunes at sunset. Gorgeous night. Skaters skating, a DJ spinning mellow sunset beats. So many people out in all the parks. A beautiful celebration of recent victories in the war on cars, SF front. 14 fun miles.
An open, heart-shaped sculpture through which you can see people walking along Sunset Dunes Park (formerly Great Highway, now a much greater recreation area) and beyond ocean beach and the pacific ocean just a few minutes after sunset.

I think Gruber has even said as much. It’s one reason why there’s no official file extension for markdown. His recommendation is just .txt.

Tom Vaughan @tocino.cl · 11/01/2026
Sure but also markdown was just a codification of what we had already been doing on mailing lists years prior, where email was plain text as He intended. None of this was meant as a sort of template to be turned into html, it was just meant to make plain text pretty.
