This special issue of Learning, Media, and Technology asks how the digital transformation reshapes the methodologies of educational research. This question is deceptive in its seeming simplicity. On closer sight, it opens a Pandora's Box of intricate and complex issues. Methodological change proves inseparable from the profound reconfigurations we are witnessing on a societal level, which affect how knowledge is produced, who holds authority to interpret social reality, and under what political, economic, and cultural conditions research unfolds.

We invite historians from all over Europe to the workshop who study Education, Technology and Inequalities in the 20th Century. In their presentations, they should work out how education and new technologies relate to existing and new inequalities. The workshop will be held at the Thurgau University of Teacher Education (PHTG) on Lake Constance, which is easy to reach from Zurich airport and the main train stations in Zurich and Con- stance. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered. To apply, please send an abstract of no more than 500 words to michael.geiss@phzh.ch by Oct 1st 2024.
