The Millennium Effect @tme1998.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Wow - that makes perfect sense, I suppose! That's great, that they were able to reuse them. So you're absolutely right, it's a shame they're not using the newly-created classic series audio descriptions on BD. Especially since the audio navigation menus invite it! 010
The Millennium Effect @tme1998.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Yes, that's true! Though The Crusade only used the William Russell narrated soundtrack on the missing episodes 2 and 4, it wasn't an audio option for the extant episodes 1 and 3 despite having been released as a complete audiobook. So they seem to have drawn a line there! 010
The Millennium Effect @tme1998.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Are the audio descriptions the same on the 2005+ DVDs and iPlayer? I've not checked but I expected them to be totally separate. No inside knowledge about it, but I imagine the agreements for the iPlayer versions didn't cover BBC Studios releases. And it would just make work for MArk again! 😅 100
The Millennium Effect @tme1998.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Re: the audio option, there's almost certainly some timing differences between the actual episodes and the audiobook versions - some sections will have been extended to fit in the narration. The overall running times are notably different! Plus it would make extra work for Mark Ayres to sync them! 🙂 110
The Millennium Effect @tme1998.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Ohh - I hadn't spotted that! I am sure it's on The Awakening disc simply for space reasons (bit more room to fill) but that typo is fun. I was pleased to see the narrated soundtrack for Warriors of the Deep turn up, I've always thought they should be included if possible! 🎧 220
The Millennium Effect @tme1998.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Thanks Joe! It's a fun puzzle to put together! Even Doctor Who Magazine have started referencing the source DVDs in their previews now, it's fun to see where everything has been drawn from. 120

The Millennium Effect @tme1998.bsky.social · 07/12/2025Got up early to check this out ASAP, and was delighted with it - what a great edit! It's got a serious, dramatic vibe where the story calls for it, but still allows for Clangers and sandwiches! The TWBTLATS line gave me the shivers. Very excited for tonight! 131

Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 14/01/2025AoD4. Before Colour Recovery this would have been the hardest episode to return to restore as the off-air tape has no coherent or useful colour. We’re fortunate that CR is at the upper end of the spectrum. 1838
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 15/01/2025AoD5. The only episode for which the off air recording has relatively good colour throughout. However, the colour recovery result is also above average and with work gives better results 2776
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 13/01/2025AoD3. Historically the most challenging episode as the off-air tape from WNED Buffalo has very little good colour and the colour recovery result was also comparatively poor. A lot of work has been needed to get closer to the quality we like. 49913
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 12/01/2025AoD2. The only known off-air recording of this story is generally poor with many sections unusable and ep 2 typifies this. Colour Recovery, while struggling to decode shadow hues consistently, unsurprisingly proved to be better throughout. 4676
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 11/01/2025Silurians 7. Not a bad off-air recording, but CR also pretty good so gives better colour registration. CR also requires a lot of work to correct hue errors- major and minor - throughput but the end results are worth it to get the episode closer to how it looked in 1970. 1/2 59910
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 10/01/2025Silurians 6. A sort of inverse ep 5 in terms of the off-air which starts unusable but improves as it progresses although is never great. Colour Recovery giving better results overall with tighter registration. 2897
The Millennium Effect @tme1998.bsky.social · 10/01/2025Hi! I don't think I could improve on their research and write up, tbh! There's a bit of a void on the site at the moment when it comes to New Series releases... the steelbooks are documented, but that's it. It would be interesting to cover all the releases in detail one day... 100
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 09/01/2025Silurians 5. The off-air recording starts out poor but watchable, but by the end is unusable so Colour Recovery proved vital on this episode 3939
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 08/01/2025Silurians 4. Reasonable colour recovery result so colours tend to have better registration, more detail and the inevitable CR minor hue fluctuations less troublesome than NTSC broadcast and domestic tape issues. 1735
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 07/01/2025Silurians 3. Unfortunately another Colour Recovery failure, although the subcarrier did facilitate a double undistortion of the film recording. Fortunately the off-air recording which provides the colour, while soft and fuzzy, is not too bad 0817
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 06/01/2025Silurians ep 2. Colour recovery worked but with marked random red blotches across the screen which were challenging to manage. Nevertheless, no off-air colour was needed so colour registration is better. 0868
Reposted by The Millennium EffectPeter Crocker @petercrockersvs.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Several people have asked to see more screengrabs from the new restorations on the Dr Who season 7 Bluray collection, so I’ll post some from an episode each day. Here is Silurians ep 1. Colour Recovery did not work so colour is smudgy from the NTSC Betamax off-air tape from 1977. 1113017
