The other thing about this situation is even if it didn’t have a good explanation — sometimes in our relationships or our lives we fuck up and don’t support our partner as much as we should but weird public harassment campaigns where you’re telling the person to kill themselves isn’t fixing that

In college I had a job where I got paid to push a button every ten minutes or so that would rotate a camera for a virtual class. It paid surprisingly well and I got to do a lot of studying in between button pushing

Happy labor day (USA). What's one of the oddest paid job you've had? Mine was probably as a reader for a medical professor at Rutgers, whose eyes were failing. I read him many academic texts, as well as Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh."

I also don’t think they’re messing with these numbers but the amount of lies and conspiracies they flood the info environment with makes everything they do look suspicious. Most people don’t understand how federal data works. They just know they can’t trust this administration.

Yep. It’s leftists influenced by libertarianism. Libertarians have warned about an emergency like Covid where bigger government leads to authoritarianism and when that didn’t happen and instead it was *libertarian* ideas that killed people they were forced to create an alternate reality.

The other giant hole in this argument is that Dems are responding to their voters on social issues. Yglesias continues to elide that Dem voters have gotten more liberal and that as *Dem* politicians they can’t just ignore that because you want them to

Not to keep repeating myself as infinitum but the fatal flaw with Mattyism is that he believes that the cultural divide he keeps complaining about is because of a few radical woke activists who can be defunded, instead of the beliefs of 30% or so of the country.

It’s usually not explicitly acknowledged but they tend to gloss over this by suggesting that left-liberal voters will have to suck it up in order to win. But they have no answer when it causes an uproar amongst progressive normie voters and then try to pin blame for that on online progressives

I can’t get over how there were days of discourse on there about whether women should have voting rights. Prominent folks had entire threads devoted to it. And while they used them to push back—if you don’t spend your time surrounded by nazis there’s no need to debate such nonsense

To be a successful coach requires acknowledging when you are wrong and Albernaz handled the Sammy situation poorly and should admit as much. It comes across as hypocritical when you see multiple other young players doing similar things not being held accountable. www.nytimes.com/athletic/737...

Not Talarico but I’m home in very conservative NEPA this weekend. I’ve seen multiple signs for Democratic candidates and zero for Republicans. I can’t stress enough how out of character that is. There’s unsurprisingly but clearly a massive enthusiasm gap emerging.

I’m in an Orioles group on Facebook and the most common type of post after poor pitching is a very specific kind of guy asking why they won’t just sign Trevor Bauer. This has been going on for years and it will continue long past he dies. It’s It's our atonement, you see; it's our punishment.

I keep making this point but if you look at the 2022 inflation from a historical lens it very clearly was a blip and transitory according to any definition of the word — the problem is when folks are living through it for some reason they think transitory means over in 6 hours.

I think people misunderstand that the point of public development is to support something the private sector is neglecting on its own but public development as an end goal in and of itself doesn’t make sense

Twitter spent all day arguing it’s a bad thing. The reasoning as I understand it is because it happened during Biden’s administration and then Harris lost the 2024 election that she lost because voters hated real wage gains. Now where that idea came from is beyond me..
