34. The End of Everything by M John Harrison a thoroughly Weird book that collapses meaning even while its characters search helplessly for it, and where reality meets the hyper-real and breaks down in a very british dystopia. i’m obsessed

i meant to order this for myself and then forgot, but it turns out james bought it as a first wedding anniversary present because technically a book is paper 10/10, great husbanding, would marry again!

i quite genuinely didn’t sleep at all last night due to a combination of a new steroid course + quitting smoking + general illness & i’m sitting here still a bit too jittery to sleep at 2:30pm and now i’m concerned that life is imitating art am I one of the Sleepless now? 😳

day 3: the only thing standing between me & a cigarette is my video game-honed desire not to lose progress on these rings

Screenshot of 3 green rings on the smoke free app, the first showing 100% (all nicotine expelled from the body), the second showing 78% and that in 13 hours taste and smell will have returned to normal, and the third showing 66% and saying in one day breathing should have returned to normal

33. Finding Albion: Myth, Folklore and the Quest for a Hidden Britain by Zakia Sewell this one’s a lovely journey through the wheel of the year, as Zakia visits traditional and new folkloric festivals to uncover how they might help build a newer, more diverse national identity

delighted to announce that the day after handing my book in i have cleaned the kitchen (slowly), put a load of desperately-needed laundry on, and can now sit down and read a book without guilt for the first time in months

can now confirm, my estimated small - medium rescue pup is becoming a very cosy medium - large pup 😂

A really quite large white a brown 7 month old puppy with a white speckled face lying across his medium basket asleep and spilling out of either end of the basket with his front and back paws

we’ve now had rescue pup Benni for 4 months, which means he’s been with us for exactly half of his little life! from tiny uncertain baby to the happiest larger-than-estimated hound in the world 🥹

the same puppy now significantly larger, lying on his side in a basket with a wide, goofy smile

twitter removed this tweet for violent speech which is hilarious on the so-called ‘free speech’ website so i’m posting it here because fuck trump and go hurricane dolly ☺️

Screenshot showing Twitter decided my joke ‘if hurricane dolly destroys trump’s mar-a-lago I might just start to believe in god’ was violent speech and had to be removed if i wanted to get back into my account

did a printmaking workshop and made terrible prints with a pal and life is lovely tonight

Laura, a white woman with cropped red hair, smiles and holds up a green-painted A4 sheet of paper with a flower print in ink on the front. She’s peering out from behind the head of Liz, a white woman with blonde highlights wearing glasses who’s holding up her own yellow botanic print

hercule purrot would like it to be known that he stands (read: lies down in solidarity with) carers and disabled people, even when the people working in broadcast media encourage abuse against us and then pretend to be confused that we don’t enjoy that very much

it’s just the camera angle he’s definitely not skinny 😂 he’s 7 months old and 16kg and the biggest of his litter lol

The same dog taken from a different angle, showing that he’s actually very large

31. On Fridays, We Eat Meat by AS Hopewell I think this is my favourite of the new Eden Book society so far! A coming-of-age centred on a (lack of) systemic power with an incredible sense of place in so short a story

little baby is so nervous she’ll only eat if someone is there to watch her back 🥺 as you may suspect i am taking my role as Dinner Guardian very seriously

there’s a 4 month old kitten in mum’s cattery today!!! SHE’S SO TINY I LOVE HER

3301

Laura Elliott @tinywriterlaura.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

i’m at mum’s for a few days working on the book and she has two of the most beautiful cats in the cattery at the moment! it was only when i looked at the photo later that i realised the little grey and white baby wanted to be in the photo too 🥺

Two fluffy white and orange cats with incredibly sleek fur and fluffy tails sitting in a cattery room, both staring at the camera and one meowing. Behind them 2 rooms over is a blurry grey and white cat peering through the middle of them at the camera

as some of you know my mum adopted one of Benni’s sisters (Lottie) & my brother adopted one of his brothers (Riley) & while i think it’s safe to say they’ve landed on their feet it’s very clear little Benni is the odd one out of the litter! (in sequence, Riley, Lottie, Benni!)

The face of a dark brown and white puppy poking out from behind a sofa cushion, very asleep! His nose is white with black dots while the rest of his face is brown

Another dark brown and white dog who looks almost the mirror image of the first, this one lying stretched out across a bed on a white quilt, looking sweetly into the camera

A very light brown and white puppy, far fluffier than his siblings with almost his whole face white and speckled and also the only one with fluffy ears

090

Laura Elliott @tinywriterlaura.bsky.social · 10/08/2026

benni is a rescue pup so we don’t know his parentage, but the charity estimated him to be a small - medium dog, closer to small i feel confident in saying now at 7 months that he is, very comfortably, a medium 😂

Laura, a white woman with cropped red hair lies half-off a velvet green armchair, while a substantially sized brown and white puppy with a majority white face lies across the whole of her body, taking up most of the picture

29. How to Mend the Sky by Ivy Liu - my second from the Eden Book Society i really loved this one! an uncanny, deeply sad story about grief and family and the ways we might cling to someone that harms us when we feel as though everything else is crumbling

28. The Drain by Caitlin T Vale - as part of the Eden Book Society a queer vampire novella, but also a tale of addiction and poverty and cycles of abuse???? entirely my thing! a dark, sad, beautiful story packed into a very small space

26. The Sundial by Shirley Jackson one of the few novels by Jackson that i hadn’t read yet, and one of her best imo. pleasingly dark and also very funny in (as I posted earlier today) a dry, ‘all of these characters are absurd without knowing it of themselves’ kind of a way

Laura’s hand holding the book The Sundial by Shirley Jackson, featuring a young girl lying on the floor next to a doll’s house
