There's just something very wrong about him trying to be all stern with schoolteachers.

Yep, every report of a death or serious crash has AGS specifically asking for footage. My mild conspiracy-theory is the same as for red light cameras - once it's recorded the scale of terrible driving on the roads will be hard to deny and invite loads of focus.

The picture is excellent - a farting right-wing councillor straight out of central casting.

That definitely isn't happening because of special reasons and we're going to commission a report that says just that.

I was watching something else recently and it was the sheer lack of quality control, rather than the awfulness of the opinions, that really got me.

Data centers are an extremely important part of modern tech - they enable remote working, entertainment, shopping and all that good stuff. But clownish responses like this to well- founded concerns about our outsize proliferation just makes the government look tech-illiterate and frankly weak.

That's the joke! Drivers are always complaining that they can't see cyclists, but also complain about the things that cyclists do.

The willingness of conservatives to embrace these arguments tends to suggest that the conservatives in question are often just polite fascists.

Here's the liquid gas industry framing its product as a "just transition". This would be sidesplittingly funny if it was not apparent that this message is getting through to politicians.

A massive part of their whole schtick was "EU wants to crush our beloved traditions like bendy bananas and pints" so I think you're absolutely right that anything related to the pound would be similarly weaponised.

Recently tried to poke my daughter's earring through the "hole" where I used to have an earring with painful and slightly bloody results. Would have been worth it though as I could rock that look in a definitely non-tragic way.

Those footpaths and green area look underutilised. They could be momentarily relieving the sense of being hard-pressed for busy motorists instead of providing space for "walking" and other frivolous activities.

It's hilarious because people just like him have been complaining about Galway "gridlock" for ever anyway, but still somehow think that making it more attractive to drive will fix things.

It's such a weird/shitty idea of what music is. Who wants personalised songs anyway, particularly infinite ones? I get it that recommendations can be good, but there's no need to burn tokens to produce idiot-friendly mush that superficially sounds like someone that I already like.

I know there is a hell of a lot going on right now. But not all of it is bad. Some is astonishingly good - like the results of this study from June. Cervical cancer is a terribly cruel thing. This might, at long last, be the beginning of the end of it. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Straws is an apt analogy since their argument is a massive strawman. Nobody things that datacenters are bad because of the emissions caused by the employees ffs

Compare this to how one-off 'drone incidents' are treated as evidence of escalating hybrid warfare. "We cannot keep treating extreme events as one-off emergencies, simply repairing the damage while people continue to live in fear of the next major event." www.rte.ie/news/2026/09...

Yes, but when it comes to Rural Ireland™ (the political concept, as opposed to actual rural Ireland, where lots of different types of people live and work) you're not supposed to suggest anything different regarding emissions because it's all a leafy Dublin middle class bike lettuce wolf trap.

There's a weird reverse version where I've had people trying to convince me to like a mainstream/pop artist (even though I definitely don't like them), based on the logic that they're popular and so the only reason I don't like them is that I haven't listened properly, or am blinded by snobbery.

I'm always amazed at how some genres like metal/country have huge audiences while the artists are virtually unknown outside of the genres themselves. Even for the ones I've heard of I couldn't name a single song. But that's a good thing - it means that there's always something to be discovered!
