NHANES runs mobile clinics that travel the country measuring height, weight, & blood pressure while collecting blood and urine samples. These samples are our only national source for tracking everything from blood sugar to hormones, heavy metals, and more. The entire operation has been eliminated.

Where has all the leadership gone? If not for university presidents, law firm managing partners, and corporate chief executives standing up against bullies, who then will step up for the first amendment? The “suspending indefinitely” of Jimmy Kimmel immediately after the Chairman of the FCC's aggressive yet hollow threatening of the Disney Company is yet another example of out-of-control intimidation. Maybe the Constitution should have said, “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, except in one’s political or financial self-interest.” By-the-way, for the record, this ex-CEO finds Jimmy Kimmel very talented and funny.

The Nation pulls NO punches, from @espiers.bsky.social "There's no requirement to take part in this whitewashing campaign. Refusing to join in doesn’t make anyone a bad person. It’s a choice to write an obituary that begins “Joseph Goebbels was a gifted marketer and loving father to six children.”

Voters overwhelmingly said yes to Sound Transit 3 in 2016. The mission is clear: build the damn trains. Cost challenges are real, but we need to keep projects moving. The longer we wait, the more it costs. Sound Transit & this region have overcome challenges in the past. We’ll do it again.

The public supports this. Light rail is highly popular politically -- it polls better than almost anything else, including a return of the Sonics. So that's not the challenge. No, the challenge is political. We need our local electeds, but in particular our state leaders, to step up and help.

These idiot white-supremacists have always been part of the national mix, as @hcrichardson.bsky.social has written about eloquently. But the rest of us have fought against them, and beaten them. We have to do that again. They are what America can sink to. We are what America hopes for.

Wow, look at this: the carbon intensity of UK electricity is currently only 32g/kWh and 86.5% of our electricity right now is coming from renewables. Come on world, this IS possible! And it will only get better (meaning: cleaner, healthier, less intrusive) 🎉 (graphic from grid.iamkate.com )

This can't be said enough. The narrative is quickly becoming but universities need fed funds, when it should be that the fed govt needs universities. NCI/NIGMS funding to Harvard/MIT supported research that led to the discovery of Herceptin, a cancer drug that has saved 3 million lives to date! 🧪
