🚨 💥 💫 New preprint! 👇 In this opinion paper, @julia-senfft.bsky.social and I discuss the role of structural uncertainty and probabilistic beliefs in anxious thought. We propose "hypotheses spaces" and their properties as a useful lens to study cognitive aspects of anxiety.

New paper is out! 🌟 Here we consider challenges in computational psychiatry and address them drawing on ideas from philosophy of science. This paper came together during my PhD through many wonderful discussions with Noor, Laura and Jakob. No surprises that I have an optimistic take 😊

New paper alert! In this paper we were interested to formally test some of the assumptions made by computational psychiatrists - assumptions about parameter recoverability, reliability and validity. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Does problematic social media use involve the same dopamine-related reward mechanisms as addiction? That’s the question motivating the research I presented at the @bapsych.bsky.social Summer Meeting, involving a dopaminergic manipulation to probe the involved mechanisms. #BAP2026

Excited to share our new paper asking a simple question: Why do mental and metabolic health so often go hand in hand? We (@camillanord.bsky.social @hugofleming.bsky.social) tested whether shared neurocognitive signatures play a role in this relationship www.nature.com/articles/s41...

🚨 Does social media use show established neurocognitive signatures of addiction? Concerns about social media addiction are widespread, yet whether platforms' design features actually engage the same neurocognitive pathways as established addictions has remained untested. doi.org/10.31234/osf...

💥New paper out! Why do some people generalise threat more than others? We show that anxious people generalise more strongly, even after accounting for perceptual mistakes. A huge (!) thanks to @ondrejzika.bsky.social @nicoschuck.bsky.social and @bernhardspitzer.bsky.social

Over the years, I have written a few Jupyter/Rmd/Matlab notebooks that attempt to teach some statistical concepts, particularly in neuroimaging. You can find them here: www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/people/rik.h..., though I will say a bit more about each one in a number of posts over next few days.

🧵 New paper! Five years ago, we, @fuzefovsky.bsky.social, Dr Alal Eran, and I, introduced empathic disequilibrium, the mismatch between cognitive and emotional empathy. In our article published in @cp-trendscognsci.bsky.social, we discuss the theoretical and clinical implications of the concept.

Congrats to Ella for her new paper! She asked a really interesting question about how the brain represents uncertainty during hidden state inference, and in a lovely crossover with theoretical work, she shows that in mice, acetylcholine dynamics play a crucial role. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Mental and metabolic health are closely linked - but what drives this connection? In our new theory paper, we (w/ @camillanord.bsky.social & @hugofleming.bsky.social g.bsky.social) propose dysregulation of interoceptive energy allostasis as a key mechanism. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... 🧵 1/n
