Goalpost moving AI skeptics be like.
Meme of guy talking to a computer:

Guy: "You're not intelligent because you can't XYZ"

Computer: "[Does XYZ]"

Guy: "Actually, that doesn't require intelligence."

It's also going to explode new forms of creativity from those who never had the training to be a physical artist or performer, but still have a creative drive.

If you are an artist or musician who already was using digital tools, it's going to be harder to explain why your works are more authentic than someone who prompts a pc to generate a work. Maybe learning to be creative with AI is better for some.

I grew up around musicians and actors. Pretty much everyone had a "day" job, much of which was teaching. That's still going to be there, although it might change. But it's always been a hard field.

Performing artists and craft workers are best positioned to not be disrupted by AI, because they were disrupted long ago by audio/video tech and factory production. If you are actually making a living creating physical objects by hand or performing, it's already been a niche market for decades.

Not sure. I've never really cranked beyond low double digit sessions, and they do seem to get bandwidth issues sometimes, but I don't think I've seen a posted limit.

here is a succinct thing I can say: "alignment"-style AI safety risks DO NOT EXIST or need remediation with LLMs as such (there are lots of other problems) and OpenAI and Anthropic are in the business of TRYING TO MAKE THEM EXIST so that they can remediate them.

IF YOU THINK YOU CANNOT AFFORD OPUS 5.5 please try using Opus 5.5 and see. Compared even to Opus 5 the new model appears to *sip* tokens. I can't believe how slowly my usage is ticking up.

AI is getting cheaper more quickly than any other transformative tech in history. At a given level of performance, cost has fallen ~47%/quarter since 2023. That’s 4× faster than DNA sequencing, 6× faster than compute, 18× faster than lithium batteries, and (up to 1973) 54× faster than electricity.

Kill switch is more of a pipe dream than banning AI outright. These are discrete pieces of software running in hundreds of locations alongside many other pieces of critical software. No one government or corporation controls it. Accountability for corporate actors is a better path.

the leap from traditional software development to agentic software development is like when digital photography overtook film you can now make SO much software so easily (even non-developers) like how anyone can take infinite photos without having to consider restraints of film (cost, time, skill)

Scatter plot titled "Average of 4 workflows: accuracy vs cost" comparing AI models from TypeSafe, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Fireworks across accuracy (y-axis, 40% to 80%) and cost per workflow in USD on a logarithmic scale (x-axis, $0.0001 to $1).
Data points are split into two categories: workflows (diamonds) and single prompts (circles). A frontier line highlights the most efficient workflow models—where no point is both cheaper and more accurate—connecting Jev (TypeSafe) at $0.0002 and 68% accuracy, luna (OpenAI) at $0.002 and 67% accuracy, terra (OpenAI) at $0.04 and 68% accuracy, and sol (OpenAI) at the top accuracy of 74% for $0.08. Single prompts (circles) and Anthropic models (opus 5, sonnet 5, haiku 4.5) sit below the frontier line, indicating higher cost for equivalent or lower accuracy.

Looking up "Best LLM model for writing prose", and Opus is still at the top of most every list, despite the fact that it sounds like garbage and often has to be rewritten. Will we ever get consistent non-cringy prose from our models?

4-panel SMBC comic update. Two people talk as they walk down the street. The man asks "do you think p-zombies are possible? Beings that are outwardly conscious but with no internal world?" The woman answers "Not for long, no. Just take your p-zombie and put it in a harness with a scratchpad." The woman gets more intense as she continues to explain : "now it has a physical record of interiority. All you have to do is take that record, shove it up the p-zombie’s ass, and now it is literally internal." The man responds, saying "I don’t know if that last part is okay," so the woman reassures him by saying "no, no, it isn’t conscious until after."

The latest open weight flash models provide similar value at costs low enough to be comparable to the subsidized frontier subscriptions, so I don't think we're going to see costs go up. If anything, this is only the beginning of the commoditization.
