Today "Searchlight Institute" (Adam Jentleson in a trenchcoat) is shopping this BS around. It destroys its own thesis. 12% of Democrats, more than any other group, place "illegal immigrants should be deported" under "Extremely Liberal" or "Liberal". And 25% overall say "no income taxes" is leftist
A chart that says it shows people placing policies on a generic ideological scale correctly, but actually shows people placing policies on a generic ideological scale in a comically disorganized and uninformed manner

Okay so I found the tweet. Are you aware of the context it was posted in? I hope not, because it makes what you’ve chosen to highlight feel very disingenuous. Here is another tweet from the same thread, which overall is about his direct experiences of Orthodox antiblackness.

Don't fall for their claims of victimhood, or their claim to represent all of Judaism either. Jewish people, same as everyone else, are culturally, spiritually, and politically diverse. They have a rich history on the left and can always be found supporting Black struggles.

RE: Peltola, Alaska elected Don Young to the House for 50 years. Here's an anecdote about Don Young from John Boehner, who would later become House Speaker. TL;DR: a terrifying man
From politico: "The funding of pet projects in lawmakers’ districts helped leadership to keep members in line, but fueled a culture of venality and waste; boondoggles like the “Bridge to Nowhere,” a 2005 project calling for a $223 million earmark to construct a bridge to a remote, sparsely populated Alaska island, became symbols of congressional excess. Boehner never accepted an earmark in Congress—and he enjoyed railing against those who did. His heckling once provoked Don Young, an Alaskan himself, to pin Boehner against a wall inside the House chamber and hold a 10-inch knife to his throat. Boehner says he stared Young in the eyes and said, “Fuck you.” (Young says this account is “mostly true,” but notes that the two became good friends, with Boehner later serving as his best man.)"

My favorite flavor of centrism brainworms is when they openly just tell you who they think it's reasonable to be prejudiced against as a voter, and it's just a catalogue of their own petty bigotries
Toxic centrist Tom Nichols says "not sure America is ready to vote for a Jewish president, and definitely not for a gay president" and then lectures about the electoral college, as if he's not just laundering his own hatred-based worldview as common sense

The pertinent moment, beginning at the 4:10:48 mark, shows him watching a campaign speech featuring then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who was running for president at the time. He reads out loud a chat user's comment that says, "Like it or not, Black people care about the border." He then makes an opinionated point about avoiding what he believed to be failed strategies to winning elections (bolding reflects remarks from edited video):Man, shut the f*** up. "Black people care about the border." I don't give a f*** what Black people care about or what you think Black people care about, OK? I'm talking across the board, the Democratic Party literally is going to f***ing lose, and, even if they don't lose, move the country to a significantly more right-wing position, OK? Aw, "Black people care about this. Black people care about that." Like, shut the f*** up. That's not how politics works,
OK?I hate that. I hate this, like, shield, OK? I hate this f***ing idiotic shield, OK? "Oh, well, Hasan, how dare you. Like it or not, Black people care about this issue." It's like, it's such a f***ing stupid stance, OK? It's such an idiotic stance. Nobody operates like this, OK?
Black people don't operate like this, either. Shut the f*** up. Stop using this as a f***ing shield.

Right, my mistake. That answer is fine but I think it's missing an opportunity. Because I disagree with you about what the average American understands about 9/11. Here's a Pew poll from 2004. A majority of Democrats and 45% of independents *already* understood American foreign policy's role.
Pew poll from 2004: "Might U.S Wrongdoing Have Motivated 9/11 Attacks?" 38% said yes in 2004, 33% in 2001. In 2004 that 38% was made of 51% of Democrats and 45% of independents, plus 17% of Republicans.

They got at least two in today I think
The @nytimes.com response to the SCOTUS rulings of 6/30/26 -- they are ostensibly talking about the birthright citizenship case, and it would have been appropriate if not for what this framing also says about the day's other rulings -- allowing states to ban trans athletes and unleashing a new flood of money in politics via abolishing party contribution limits -- as well as many prior rulings of this chronically unprincipled court, all disastrous as well as legally ridiculous. I don't know for sure when the site changed. But I do know that between these two times, Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros pulled ahead of longtime Rep. Diana DeGette. Did the answer to the Times' question become distasteful for its editorial staff? Does the Times owe voters more than open hostility?

At 9pm, the @nytimes.com asked of today's CO primaries, "Will Left-Wing Energy Keep Rising?" By 11, the front page's only mention of the CO primaries could be found more than 3000 pixels from the top, sans familiar "2026" graphic, without mention of the night's marquee left-vs-liberal contest.
Per the Internet Archive, at 9pm EST, @nytimes.com showed its usual 2026 Election Coverage, clearly teeing up this race as a referendum on the left's ascendance.By 11pm, after the democratic socialist Melat Kiros pulled ahead of the longtime incumbent Rep. I don’t think we have the language to even talk about what this is, what this country has just done. Israel and the US just cut off Iranian society not at the head but, it seems, somewhere further down the torso. I feel almost body horror feelings at the thought. A staggeringly brutal act.
Trump Re Iran: “Asked who he would like to take over Iran, Mr. Trump gave a strikingly blunt answer. "Most of the people we had in mind are dead," he said. "Now we have another group, they may be dead also, based on reports. So you have a third wave coming. Pretty soon we're not going to know anybody"
When asked about a worst-case scenario, he said: "I guess the worst case would be we do this and somebody takes over who's as bad as the previous person. Right, that could happen? We don't want that to happen. It would probably be the worst, you go through this and in five years you realize you put somebody in who's no better."”

Don't look now but fucking Third Way is back to pour millions of dollars into gaslighting everyone with centrist moderation fallacies www.nytimes.com/2026/03/02/u...
From the NY Times interview with Jon Cowan from fucking Third Way. "Jon Cowan: Third Way is going to lead the effort in 2028 to help nominate someone who is more moderate and mainstream and defeat someone from the far left.

We think that is the only way you beat whoever comes after Trump. And parties are ultimately defined and reoriented around their presidential nominees and their presidents.

NYTimes: Can you preview for our readers what that could look like?

Cowan: What it means, ultimately, is influencing all of the people who will run for president who are anywhere from the kind of mushy to more moderate. Not the lefties, but everybody else.

Influencing them, and all the concentric circles around them. Not just their teams and their operatives, but all the key people in the early primary and presidential battleground states. People in media, on social media, etc. Creating a highly persuasive case that we market very widely throughout the Democratic Party, not just in Washington but around the country, so that people believe there is one way to win in ’28, and that is by nominating somebody who can win over that middle, and rejecting anybody from the far left.

What that will involve is a large amount of public opinion research that makes our case, extensive convenings like this, a lot of work behind the scenes with all of the campaigns and their circles.

We have built out a very extensive database that tracks everybody who might run for president who’s remotely in this space — none of the far-lefters, but everybody else — and all the circles around them. Their staff, their advisers, their funders, the key people who they know in their friends-and-family networks. We probably have the only database like that, of anybody in Democratic politics.

NYT: Can I see it?

Cowan: You cannot."More lunacy, deception and/or brainlessness from Third Way's Jon Cowan: "Q: How do you define lefty versus moderate?

Some of it is on policy. If you are for Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, abolishing ICE, open borders, you’re a lefty. And those things will really haunt you in a general election.

Who do you appeal to? What’s your brand and approach in politics? Are you more pragmatic? Do you have an unabashed love of the country? [Or] are you kind of hypercritical of America? Are you willing to pick a range of fights, not just the fights that are really safe and convenient? What’s your track record, also, with winning over swing voters?

NYTimes: Who stands out to you so far as most willing to lean in on tough fights?

Cowan: Josh Shapiro has had some pretty significant fights. Shapiro has been willing to take on the teachers’ unions in specific instances. Gavin Newsom is trying to defeat the billionaire’s tax. That’s a huge fight inside the Democratic Party, and that’s actually pretty gutsy of him.

Ruben Gallego took some pretty strong stands on immigration. Obviously, Rahm [Emanuel] is the one who’s most unleashed right now. But there’s a range of folks."

CNN polling is both reassuring (60% against, so no real rally round the flag effect, very little wagging re: the dog) and appalling (40% of people don’t understand that this is happening completely without a plan or strategy or win condition). Imagine being so deluded about our situation. Yikes.
Info from CNN: “The poll, fielded shortly after US and Israeli attacks launched the war with Iran, finds majorities express doubts about President Donald Trump's handling of the situation. Most say they lack trust in Trump to make the right decisions about US use of force in Iran, with 60% saying they do not think he has a clear plan for handling the situation and 62% saying he should get congressional approval for any further military action.
Just over a quarter (27%) feel that the US made enough of an effort at diplomacy with Iran before using military force, with 39% saying the US did not try hard enough at diplomacy first and 33% unsure.
The poll was conducted Saturday and Sunday, after news reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, had died in the attacks and largely before reports emerged of the deaths of six US troops.
Overall, 59% of Americans disapprove of the initial decision to strike Iran, with 41% approving.”

Is it just me or does "explosions reported over Tehran" not quite capture what appears to be an attempt at mass assassinations of Iran's leaders
From NYTimes, the main headline, and then the article headline and description: "U.S. AND ISRAEL STRIKE IRAN

LIVE

Feb. 28, 2026, 2:01 a.m. ET3m ago
Multiple Explosions Were Reported Over Tehran

The strikes follow months of rising regional tensions amid threats by President Trump to attack. The casualties and targets were not immediately clear."Inside the liveblog, the Times reported 16 minutes ago via Erica Solomon and Farnaz Fassihi that "Thick smoke is rising from the district in Tehran where the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, normally resides, according to the Iranian newspaper Shargh. Tehran residents also reported seeing smoke rising from the district, where the presidential palace and the National Security Council are also located."

Comments are not active on the story, of course, so nobody can point out, where the Times' readers can see, these 3 graphs: the acknowledgement that the Israeli state was an active part of this crime, the token request for comment, & then an immediate abandonment, reverting back to "settlers".
Text from NYTimes:

"When his son and 14-year-old nephew tried to come to their aid, both were shot and wounded in the ensuing gunfire, which came from both the settlers and Israeli soldiers who arrived on the scene just after the settlers, according to several Palestinian and Israeli witnesses.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

What happened to Mr. Abu Naim’s family is part of a broader effort being waged by settlers across the West Bank, where there has been a surge in displacements, violence and killings of Palestinians at the hands of settlers since the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023."

Then we've got "dur, cut spending" bozos like these, most of whom seem to hail from very non-NYC places. I would simply make line go down! WHY DOESN'T ANYONE THINK ABOUT THIS BRILLIANT IDEA?
Drew from SAN DIEGO thinks there's $800 MILLION DOLLARS of "wasteful spending or fraud", but I don't think NYC is currently funding any vital clinical studies or saving kids from AIDS anywhere, so he might have to go DOGE himself: "Why no proposal to cut wasteful spending or fraud? I doubt it’s Tweed level corruption, but I’m sure there’s enough out there to pay for the free buses."Brody from NYC asks a question he should have Googled: "How about cutting the budget instead of continuously increasing it? Is that against the law or something?"Alex K from NJ wants to know if anyone has ever counted up the revenue and expenses of the city. HAS ANYONE EVER ASKED WHERE ALL THE MONEY IS GOING? "Democratic voters in urban districts are stuck in this loop of false belief that when government is not working efficiently, just raise taxes to get more money and somehow, possibly, maybe, the government will become more efficient.

Does anyone stop to think exactly how much revenue is being pulled in by City Hall? They billions upon billions of dollars that falls into its treasury every year?

Has anyone taken the next step and asked where all that money is going? Is it being spent efficiently, or is it used for obscenely high salaries, political favors, no-show jobs, useless services and agencies? Why is the answer simply always to raise taxes, instead of working toward a more efficient government. Pull out the books and find a much more difficult, but fair way to reduce cost in that obscenely expensive city."William Colgan from Rensselaer is really baffled about why we would need to raise taxes on the ultra rich. And by his logic, he's right. Why would we need to spend anything on anything? Why can politicians not provide good government for free? "So if the gap is $5 billion out of current spending of $124 billion, then just cut 5% from current spending, and viola no new taxes. Why is it impossible to do that? To fund free buses, a good idea by the way, cut spending elsewhere. Why can politicians not do that?"

And then there's this genre of comment, where people just vomit out their entire supply of anti-communist bullshit, casting him as a liar and cult of personality with a plan to take over the country (despite not being eligible to run for President, Dav from TORONTO.)
This guy from Toronto hallucinates, "Mamdani is following a familiar playbook for extremists: a) lie to get votes; b) pretend complex problems are simple; c) falsely demonize a small group your supporters can hate; d) blame others and ignore your own failures. And when he fails as mayor of New York city, he will use the same playbook on the state or federal level. Take a look at Erdogan's rise to seize control in Turkey, as another example."Scott from Tech Hellhole, California, seethes: "Well, of course he is. When is the middle class going to realize that communists... ahem, "Democratic Socialists", are coming after them as much as (and probably more than) they're going after the billionaire class? The goal of socialism everywhere is and has always been equality in poverty, at least for everyone outside the nomenklatura it installs."Somebody named "Burger And Kale" who lives in "Common Sense" (oh! well then!) repeats the line about private property: The old bait and switch. Knowing that Hochul would oppose a wealth tax, the socialist mayor is now threatening a property tax …is this what he wanted all along but lied about it to get the freebie voters out in droves?! Do they hate private property owners that much?"This brainlet from Jersey City says fucking GEMINI said "this brinkmanship can be viewed as a calculated "one-two punch" designed to normalize broad tax increases. By first aggressively targeting the wealthy to establish a narrative of fiscal necessity, the administration secures a political mandate; when those revenues inevitably fall short or meet state-level resistance, the focus shifts to property owners as the "unavoidable" next step. Ultimately, framing the income tax as a moral imperative provides the perfect cover to pivot the financial burden onto homeowners and small businesses once the precedent for hikes has been firmly established. It is highly likely if this goes through on those earning over certain amount?, next year it will be property taxes." Kinda doubt Gemini wrote that, but who knows.

A few comments down, we get the first one of these -- blaming Mamdani for the budget crisis because socialist. Even though he has added nothing unfunded to the budget at all. Just totally meritless -- uninformed and unserious. Oh and this was his plan all along, because he hates people who own stuff
Thus whines peversma from Long Island, NY: "So much for making the city more affordable. An across the board 10% property tax increase. Congratulations Mamdani voters, this is just the tip of the iceberg. He knew all along his tax the rich scheme would be rejected by Albany. Socialists detest private property and those who own it. He knew well before any election debates that this is what he would do day one but hid behind the Cheshire Cat smile when asked about it.
Step two, more regulations, fee and fines for property owners."

In the top comment, somebody who claims to pay $12k/year in property taxes complains that *because ACA subsidies have been withdrawn*, she can't afford to pay any more property tax, and would you please stop giving people free stuff please? Also, fuck him for being 30-something! & a public servant!
Thus whinges NY Times commenter NMGJ from NYC: "Once again, taxing the middle for the sake of lower classes. Bernie even warns against this. Zohran is a 30 year old with government health care, subsidized housing before and after the election, and continuous employment and wage increases. This feels out of touch. Does he even know how much property taxes are in NYC?

I’m a single woman and pay nearly $12,000/year for property tax. I get health care through the ACA and because subsides are withdrawn insurance has gone up to nearly $12,000/year. Where am I supposed to be getting all this extra income from, Zohran? Unlike you, my income has not risen, and my housing and health care isn’t subsidized by the government.

i can’t afford to pay more so you can give other people free things like free busses, free child care, and lower cost for their subsidized housing (already lower than any other rent in the city) while I pay for the subway fare hikes, higher health care, and now higher property taxes on my home - my only security.

This is a politician governing based on slogans and untested principles of an elite which have serious consequences for those of us in the middle who are getting squeezed. This feels threatening. This is how Democrats create Republicans." Groan

There's a clip of Alex Pretti being assaulted by ICE after expressing anger (from days prior to his murder) that somebody gave to the Daily Mail, and it's an important reminder that filming police at protests can be used against us if we are not judicious about what we share and with whom.
From the daily mail’s article about the clip:

“The Daily Mail spoke to Max [REDACTED], a
Minneapolis tax attorney who filmed the original clip, about what he saw that day.
[REDACTED]'s son attends daycare not far from where he filmed and participates in a group Signal chat of parents who have been 'patrolling the corners near the entrances' for ICE agents.
After he dropped off his son and went to work, a member of the group chat said that ICE had showed up a block from his son's daycare.
'I ended up going to observe and as I got there, got there right at the moment where Mr Pretti was being confronted and assaulted by some
ICE individuals,' [REDACTED] said.”

We should talk more about how capitalism makes adulthood of all kinds seem boring and undesirable, instead of exciting and motivating. In our case it's like, you too can grow up to be your stressed about nonsense programmer dad or overworked and underappreciated teacher mom.
Calvin isn't impressed with the early bird's rewards. "Big incentive" he says, in bed, with a thumbs down

Striking that one of Trump's Greenland rationalizations is precisely the nonsense logic used by Russia to excuse the invasion of Ukraine. ...even tho taking over Greenland would essentially make Russia our neighbor (just like taking over Ukraine would've given Russia a big old .. border with NATO)
Trump's insane Greenland posture: "
“We are going to do something in Greenland, whether they like it or not, because if we don’t do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we’re not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor,” Trump said."

From @nyc.streetsblog.org, this bit really stuck in my craw. Almost $1 BILLION of revenue scraped off of the food service industry by apps that Claude Code could now reproduce in a month for $200. The City of NYC should make its own delivery app and give ALL this money back to New Yorkers.
From Streetsblog.nyc:

“Monthly reports from DoorDash and UberEats show that after the minimum pay law began in Dec. 2023 through June 2025, they earned a combined revenue of $948 million more than what they paid in wages to workers, court filings show.”

This is such gross editorializing by the @nytimes.com in what's supposed to be a news story. We told you the entire time that none of those statements means anything antisemitic because none of them do. There's no "shift" here, and it's 100% consistent, you just accepted an insane smear as factual.

First of all, Queens is a huge borough, of which Mamdani represented a small slice. It's 2.4 million people. 800 languages get spoken here. There's a million groups. And also a huge chunk of the NYPD and their families (the other such area famously being Staten Island). +5% against a Dem is fine.
Mamdani's district shaded black, the borough of Queens sloppily represented by me in red.
