I don't know how you live through the last 10 years and believe Hegelian historiography/Great Man theory is utterly baseless, that one extraordinary individual *cannot* redirect the flow of history.

if you're a jewish-israeli politician, you're allowed to incite genocide against palestinians and retain your position as a senior cabinet official. if you're a palestinian-israeli politician, you cannot say palestinians are allowed to resist that genocide, or you will be banned from public office.

RE: Peltola, Alaska elected Don Young to the House for 50 years. Here's an anecdote about Don Young from John Boehner, who would later become House Speaker. TL;DR: a terrifying man
From politico: "The funding of pet projects in lawmakers’ districts helped leadership to keep members in line, but fueled a culture of venality and waste; boondoggles like the “Bridge to Nowhere,” a 2005 project calling for a $223 million earmark to construct a bridge to a remote, sparsely populated Alaska island, became symbols of congressional excess. Boehner never accepted an earmark in Congress—and he enjoyed railing against those who did. His heckling once provoked Don Young, an Alaskan himself, to pin Boehner against a wall inside the House chamber and hold a 10-inch knife to his throat. Boehner says he stared Young in the eyes and said, “Fuck you.” (Young says this account is “mostly true,” but notes that the two became good friends, with Boehner later serving as his best man.)"

I think you had to be very online at a time when most people weren't to know that the bush administration was comically evil to the extent that it was, but for those of you who weren't: trust us! these were stupid evil people, not so different from the current ones!

‘I Was Sold a Bill of Goods’: Americans and the Distrust Election (Gift Article)
Americans have a pervasive sense they are being lied to. That has created an unpredictability in politics unseen since Donald Trump said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue without losing voters.

It's very weird the way Trump behaves almost as if from an alternate reality while within 50 feet of Zohran Mamdani, then reverts instantly to demon form when they part ways

It's legitimately very cool that NoPixel V has deputized GTA V's developers to extend the mutability of the game world into the engine itself. And there's officially DMs now. Getting closer and closer to the limitlessness of IRL role-play gaming, so much room to imagine already opened + unexplored

i mean, just look at how the populists talked about the railroad barons and others like them. "The fruits of the toil of millions are boldly stolen to build up colossal fortunes, unprecedented in the history of the world, while their possessors despise the republic and endanger liberty."

My favorite flavor of centrism brainworms is when they openly just tell you who they think it's reasonable to be prejudiced against as a voter, and it's just a catalogue of their own petty bigotries
Toxic centrist Tom Nichols says "not sure America is ready to vote for a Jewish president, and definitely not for a gay president" and then lectures about the electoral college, as if he's not just laundering his own hatred-based worldview as common sense

So the media literally is choking and about to pass out over somebody finally making them do the math on why the US and Israel are so obsessed with keeping nukes out of Iran's hands? Got nobody but themselves to blame for that, it has always been just complete f-ing incompetence on their part

Whenever I see people ask "why are we still talking about Hasan" I think "great question, but don't you already know the answer?" The rich have systematically dismantled all mechanisms for popular control of the agenda. Hasan has broken through that. Now we get to hash things out, despite the rich.

And even more to the point, there is no point to a Democratic House majority that can’t summon votes *against* the fascists. How is it going to look & feel if the Democrats control the House but Jeffries has to agree to lose votes to a bipartisan coalition against trans people? Who does that serve?

Listen, if you’re a Democrat who feels any type of way about folks refusing to vote for any Democrat who goes after trans folks, or any marginalized group — just pretend they’re officially Republican. Vote blue, unless they’re fascists. It’s really not hard to sort out imho

This is true 24/7/365. Doesn’t matter if it’s an election year. Doesn’t matter how shitty our media is; failing to observe this is why it’s shitty. Tell the truth. Defend the tellers of truth. And offer no harbor to liars.

tim f @timfitz.manapool.nyc · 17/09/2026
The assumption that it’s better for Democrats not only to protect load-bearing false premises, but to publicly suppress anybody who fails to, is not rooted in any kind of empirical data! It’s purely prejudicial. You think we need to defend freely expressing the truth? Defend concealing it.

Hasan should keep talking because more often than not he's right and it's good practice for Democrats to stop getting forced into sister soujah moments by consultants. those that fail should be primaried.

Journalism as a mainstream institution is actually dead at this point. It’s beyond bad — stick a fork in it. We are going to have to start over. In hindsight maybe it was always true that power could color facts. But journalism as a profession is now a parody of the worst hate it’s ever gotten.

This isn't about Bob Kraft. It's about the failure of our society to preserve an actual right to free expression. If liberals believed what they claim, they would have a problem with billionaires deciding what can and can't be discussed by people without abrogation of their liberties & lives.

Gotta say I knew that transphobia, xenophobia, and Islamophobia were varying-amounts-of-latent diseases in the body politic. But I didn't expect them to meet such strong defense from liberals just as fascism is trying to exploit all three of them to win power. The shamelessness brings me to rage.

One of David Graeber's most evergreen points: When liberals accuse folks of "voting against their own interests" it comes off as condescending & hypocritical. Why *shouldn't* folks vote for the greater good? Isn't that what liberals are doing? That's the frame to appeal to -- not selfishness.

i don't think there would be this many charlie kirk memes if the antiwoke crowd and kirk himself didn't make dominating virtually every marginalized group their core identity & then the admin + msm demanded reverence & fealty after the guy who said "school shootings are a price i'm willing to pay to preserve 2a" was killed in the 46th school shooting in 2025. we live in a violent country led by hypocritical monsters.

As good a reason to harm-reduction-vote as any, but it points to an even bigger one: the Supreme Court is trying to end all vestiges of democratic self-government, which the current US Constitution really doesn't guarantee. & Republicans want that, almost more than any one other thing.
