I never really thought about non-AI tech in that way, but you’re absolutely right. The problem transcends AI and removes informed consent from consumers no matter what we try to do. I hate to say it, but I’m glad that my enthusiasm for being online has been dwindling lately.

I don’t think we’ll find a more apt metaphor for the pervasiveness of AI than what’s on display here. “I don’t want that!” “Yes, you do!” Can we think of any other circumstances in which a person may decline someone’s advances, but they force themselves on them, anyway?

I have a surgery consultation for my wrist, but that’s a month away. I also have my foot surgery to worry about in November, which is an even bigger undertaking, so I’m still torn on what to deal with first. Both problems hinder my quality of life quite significantly. I’m exhausted by it all.
