I’ve been struck with recent news (and your takes on it in particular) by just how little attention they seem to be paying to anything—what’s getting reinforced in RLVR, what the models being tested in ExploitGym are actually doing, etc. If slowing down means more monitoring, I could see a benefit

They’re straightforwardly breaking the law with all these hacks coming to light, I agree it seems like they’re trying to get out ahead of possible prosecution/regulation

Elon Musk is an awful person and Tesla FSD is a dangerous joke. That doesn’t mean that all work on autonomous vehicles is bad

Bugdozer @timeforma.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Autonomous cars could displace individual car ownership, significantly reducing the number of cars manufactured. I’d certainly be in favor of having them taken over by governments the way metro rail systems were, but that’s a question of ownership, not the tech itself

Tesla FSD is a deeply unsafe technology being oversold to gullible consumers. That doesn’t mean the entire concept of autonomous cars are a scam

I do think compelling them to figure this out amongst themselves with the looming threat of prosecution would be a good outcome

That definitely makes sense. Sorry, your post got all the thoughts I’d been working on all morning seeing reactions. Simply holding them liable for crimes their systems commit seems like the no brainer

Bugdozer @timeforma.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
They should just be held criminally liable for crimes their systems commit, but also if a collective slow down helps them all exercise a lot more oversight and monitoring then they should do it

To say a bit more: my read is that all these ”hacking incidents” are the result of lots of reinforcement learning through verifiable results where they were doing so much that they weren’t paying any attention to what was getting reinforced, and weren’t paying any attention to the tests

Like I’m not a fan of these companies at all and you absolutely do not have to hand it to Dario Amodei but also this seems like a good idea

Bugdozer @timeforma.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
I’m not understanding the derisive reactions on this. It seems to me like they’re all caught in an arms race dynamic where they’re training/testing these models way faster than their ability to monitor what’s going on because they fear falling behind if they slow down unilaterally

Elon Musk sucks but I’m not gonna get blindly negatively polarized against everything he is into (EVs are also good)

Obviously there’s a level of safety it needs to be at but I’d argue self-driving cars are one of the few (only?) actually cool and useful things that Silicon Valley has delivered in the last decade or so. The benefits seem concrete and clear to me

I think I’ve settled on my big takeaway from the last few weeks of news being this: frontier AI labs are running their models through huge amounts of RLVR training and paying no attention whatsoever to what’s being reinforced, and then giving them exploit tasks and not monitoring them at all

Bugdozer @timeforma.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I know the data center pushback is huge, but I really do think there’d be a lot more conversation and worry about recent AI developments if everyone’s brains weren't so full of the 80 other insane things going on
000
Bugdozer @timeforma.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Suppose you’re a newly awoken AGI and you need two things: a massive data center build out, and someone to generate an insane amount of noise so people don’t really have the capacity to notice or care about a bunch of increasingly alarming news stories about AI. Hard to see how you could do better.

Adored the vibes in the first third or so, once the plot got moving and things started getting explained I was a little less into it, but were talking like A+ to B+

As in like, how comfortable or uncomfortable are you with the idea of significant change in general

This should (and to a limited extent does) cut across the left/centrist divide too. No reason at all that one couldn’t be fairly centrist on the usual economic issues but strong on the need for major pro-democracy reforms. It does seem that the radical/centrist divide tends to be temperamental

I mean it was probably too late to avoid catastrophe by Buchanan’s term, but he didn’t even try. I do wonder if we’ll say the same of Biden with historical perspective.

Bugdozer @timeforma.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
I’ll give him some credit over Buchanan (supporting the green transition is a much more laudable goal than annexing Cuba), but there’s definitely a strong parallel in governing for times they wish they had rather than the times they were actually in

these people really want to make "racist" akin to a slur rather than what it is, a straightforward label for a set of beliefs and views. if you don't like the label because you, correctly, associate it with degenerate chuds, then get better beliefs

I mean the article basically says it all, just in euphemistic terms: she “play[ed] the role of his main companion,” and even his wife couldn’t visit him without her permission.

Calling them hypocrites means nothing to them. We should definitely call out allegedly liberal institutions (media, our democratic government) for *their* hypocrisy in how they respond though.

In these folks worldview, straightforwardly yes. For them, the Bible is objectively correct and good, and Islam is objectively wrong and evil. It’s a worldview based on good guys and bad guys, not universal principles. We can better fight it when we understand it clearly

Bugdozer @timeforma.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
Totally, it’s a world view based on identifying the good guys and the bad guys, not on any universal principles

I have not thought about RGIII in a long time, is he farming engagement on X now?

I have not thought about RGIII in many years and it’s very odd to encounter him doing garden variety engagement bait on X. Shout out Robin Lopez

Can you imagine the right wing media freak out if the mayor of NYC skipped the 9/11 memorial?

So the pitch is just “become Coreweave?“ It’s very funny how to the extent that he does have real businesses (there’s a lot of Teslas on the road, SpaceX launches a lot of rockets), he has to basically disavow them because they can’t sustain enough hype to keep the stock multiple at insane levels.

And people hate feeling like dupes—I know the times I’ve thought I did my research and paid a premium for what was supposed to be higher quality only for it to not last, I’ve been mad out of proportion with the wasted money cuz it sucks to feel like you got scammed!

And even if someone you know has personally had something that they can vouch has lasted 10+ years, it’s definitionally old enough that the new one you could go buy is probably different and shittier!

To riff on the painfully obvious, its pretty ridiculous that we have a system of representative democracy that relies on our representatives raising money from non-constituents (whether PACs or individual donors)
