It remains very funny to me that there are exactly two places where Francis Ford Coppola will allow people to watch this: In movie theaters or -- the way I saw it -- as an in-flight movie on American Airlines.

Just a reminder that (as noted in the thread) Part I of this fantastic and compelling and is on MUBI, where you can watch it as a five-episode limited series.

I went to check on the latest House and Senate polls and hadn't realized I must still have a bookmark for the NYT's polling page from 2016, because this is what came up, and it's (a) an amazing jump-scare; and (b) honestly a pretty good reminder to approach polls with caution.
NYT's pre-2016 election polling page declaring Hillary Clinton has an 85% chance to win.

The funny thing is, the absolute best, clearest-eyed assessment of why that was literally impossible was from Carol Loomis at Fortune who ignored all the hype and just sat down with a balance sheet and said “No.”

I still remember being given stock options in AOL Time Warner the day the deal went through and by the time the first batch vested a year later, buying shares at the strike price would have lost me thousands of dollars.

I mean, I’ve worked at the company off and on for long enough that I remember when “an AOL Corporation” was added to the logo and everyone thought it’d be there for years.

Fwiw, I’ve seen 2-stick packs of stuff like Breakstone’s, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what’s more common in areas where shoppers are on tighter budgets.

It’s always helpful to remember that this side of her was evident to anyone who regularly watched Fox News, and NBC decided to give her a primetime newsmagazine and make her the new face of the Today show anyway.

Yeah, ordinarily I'm happy to bail on something that's Just Not For Me -- Reacher was confounding because I was 51/49 on continuing, because I could see the potential for a really fun show if they leaned into the stuff that worked the best. But from what I can tell that... didn't happen.

My one contribution to this site’s Reacher Discourse is that Young Reacher and his brother look like you somehow split James Talarico into two people.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was trying to figure out. I don't hate it! But it feels like I'm watching a show at a different level of quality from how it gets discussed On Here, and wasn't sure if that was an "early vs. later season" issue or a "my taste vs. your taste" one.

Tim Carvell @timcarvell.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I'm trying to think of the most diplomatic way of asking this on a site full of "Reacher" fans, but having watched one season of it, I have to ask: Is season 1... indicative of its overall quality? Or is this like "Buffy" or "The Office" where there's a leveling up?

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

Folks, you really need to stop sharing that bullshit RadarOnline story claiming that Bari Weiss is "likely out" at CBS News. It's sourced to a single "industry insider" who merely speculates she could be in trouble, and it doesn't even include the quote that's in the headline.

Total private construction is about $1.6 TRILLION per year. Total data center construction is about $50 BILLION. So data centers are ~3% of all construction. There's no real crowding out here. Comparing total spending change from such RADICALLY different baserates tells us almost nothing.

... it's not entirely clear how much of this was due to errors vs. fraud, and the figures they cite are extremely small relative to the size of the program (as in, less than 1 percent.) This all feels like DOGE, where small amounts of waste or fraud get blown out of proportion to demolish programs.

I got curious to see what Republican even cite when they talk about this, and it seems to be things like this GAO report, which found instances of dead or fictitious SSNs being used for ACA plans, which triggered gov't payments to insurers to subsidize premiums. But... www.gao.gov/assets/gao-2...

But if *I* had evidence that were going on, I'd be on TV naming the big companies and providers, and not just throwing individual accounts off the rolls. That's something the government has done pretty routinely in the past! They used to be good at it!

Tim Carvell @timcarvell.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I'm not saying any of their claims are true, but on its face, the only way the scheme they're describing would work is if insurers are creating fake accounts and accepting government subsidies for them, or providers are billing those accounts, which... would be a massive story about corporate fraud.
