France is mandating solar panels on every large commercial car park in the country — turning millions of square metres of idle asphalt into one of Europe's most productive clean energy assets. I have been mentioning this for months - they are shooting up on all the supermarket car parks.

Fist bump to anyone else caught between the need to bow down & accept the dire, broken reality of the attention economy to continue surviving via their creativity & a desire to disconnect which becomes more vast, and more potentially vital to their sense of inner peace, with every year that passes.

Last night, I got properly "doored" for the first time. A car in the road to my right paused, and the rear left passenger threw open his door without looking, right into my path. I ended up on the floor, badly winded but ok. If you don't know what the "Dutch reach" is, NOW is the time to learn.
Illustration of the Dutch Reach. You should reach across with your non-door-side hand to open a car door, because it forces you to look behind you.

Letter to the Person Who
Carved His Initials into the Oldest Living Longleaf Pine in
North America
by Matthew Olzmann
-Southern Pines, NC

Tell me what it's like to live without curiosity, without awe. To sail on clear water, rolling your eyes at the kelp reefs swaying beneath you, ignoring the flicker of mermaid scales in the mist, looking at the world and feeling only boredom. To stand
on the precipice of some wild valley, the eagles circling, a herd of caribou booming below, and to yawn with indifference. To discover something primordial and holy.
To have the smell of the earth welcome you to everywhere.
To take it all in, and then, to reach for your knife.

‘For "The Goonies," Steven Spielberg had a special request for Drew Struzan - create a series of variations on the poster so that each of the kids could have their own moment in the spotlight at the top of the artwork.
These sepia-toned pieces were used for weekly newspaper ads to promote the film, with each version highlighting a different cast member.’

An exhausting thing about this alt right stuff is how insincere it all is. These people aren’t ideologues. They’re morons. They’re internet trolls. They call for things they know will stir outrage - for fun. We give them too much credit. And it has warped our sense of humanity.
