What do sesame seeds tell us about the environmental histories of the African diaspora? How does a historian know where to start?

We are calling for participants for a two-day workshop on multi-disciplinary sea ice research and knowledge to be held at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, on February 19-20, 2026.

The book examines non-Western frameworks in environmental humanities, critiquing dominant paradigms and advancing discourse on diverse human-environment relationships in global contexts.

Authors are invited to submit an abstract and image of the “thing” from their research projects that they have not found a place for within a broader project.
