for me there’s something about the intermediate step. there’s just enough friction to attach the important context somewhere in my brain lol it also helps that i’ve been using things since like 2016 at least so looking at it is as habitual as anything can be for me 🙈

not that i know of. which is why i’m stick with the mac mail client and its hideous message: uris lol

the important part is allowing context to accrete and reducing the barriers to getting back to whatever thing it is i need to work on. if it’s an email, that’s a uri to the email. if i write a todo to reply to the bank, but have to hunt for the email i need to reply to, it’s not gonna happen.

for example, i’ll take the uri of an email i need to reply to and paste it into things (or if i’m lucky the quick capture sidecar is running) and write something like “reply to bank” as the headline and jot a few bullets about why i need to reply and what i need to say as the body of the todo

in my things app it’s all about single step verbs and task bundles in obsidian daily notes i start to make little clumps of context, assembling raw material that becomes task bundles or separate notes

in short: i take the uri of an email and put it into my todo list so it’s easy to click back to the email i also take the text of the email and edit it down to the key bits and put it with the todo i can elaborate but don’t want to go on for seventeen or so posts unasked lol

oh i feeeeeeeel this. the only thing that works for me is to turn emails i need to do something with into something other than emails, so i put them into my task list and manage them the way i manage anything else i need to do (badly, but better than email lol)

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

you cannot stop people from moving anywhere any more than you can stop the sea from reshaping the beach. people have been moving everywhere and bringing their annoyingly different ways of living with them since before we were people

to be really, really annoying: a point orthogonal to the one under discourse over *gestures ambiguously* there is broadly speaking we should want the places we live to become more the things we love about them, which will increase the appeal to people who also value those (but not only those) things
