If your post is 300 characters of bragging about what a great person you are while bragging about this great act you've just done, that post better end with, as I just saw one lady do, "This good deed frees me up to do something hideous now." Otherwise, who are you?

That thing where someone has quote posted, but the post you're so curious about is blocked. Did I block them? Did Alison block them for everyone? Did they block me? Damnit, I want to know what hideous thing you thought you should say out loud.

"I keep getting served a Starlink ad where people say they can live rurally but have access to cities and it shows them watching war footage." Good thing so many people were convinced by so many other people that the relentless rise of a christo-fascist military dictatorship was just a distraction.

Hi everyone, it's #FolkHorrorFriday and today we are watching the 2013 film The Sacrament. As always, the movie is free to stream on Tubi, and we all press play at 9pm ET.
Poster for The Sacrament. A stark photo of a wooden chair and a wooden table with a plain white cross standing in the background. The text says Live as one. Die as one." Presented by Eli Roth and directed by Ti West.

I think "desolate moors, phantom monks, a ruined abbey, gaslighting (depends), brooding men, and a beautifully evocative cover" might be the plan for this soggy Friday. (Is this one of those "the book was better" moments?)

[Deep breath} When you predict Oscar nominations for a movie based on pedigree without seeing it, you are volunteering to aid in a publicity system that favors movies the campaigns for which are already well funded, and by doing so further disadvantaging films whose primary merit is their quality.

Instead of being allowed to just quietly exist as that affable but odd old guy who no one really knows anything about other than that he lives alone in the forest with his pack of hounds and possibly over-ambitious re-wilding projects, it appears I have unexpectedly fallen into a bromance. WTF?

@patrickzircher.bsky.social Speaking of U of A in the 80s... I've asked a couple of other people our age still in Tucson and no one seems to know. Maybe you? Is the graffiti still in the Modern Languages outdoor stairwell that read "Adam Ant was an Adamant Ant?" I would love a picture of it.

Prompt: Everyone has an objectively bad movie they saw at age 13 that they still love and lives in their brain in perpetuity. Quite a low point for director Stanley Donen (ON THE TOWN, SINGING IN THE RAIN, CHARADE). Kirk Douglas' bare ass on screen for the first time. Farrah just doing her best.

It's sad that Jayne Mansfield wasn't taken seriously by so many people and how much that hurt her. Low-rent Marilyn my ass. She was a delight, had great comic timing, and was smarter and more unique than most everyone who called her just a ditzy blonde. Marilyn was Marilyn. Jayne was Jayne.

Yesterday morning's post by DJT is not a distraction from Epstein, The Files™, Iran, narcolepsy, or anything else. It's a public announcement by DJT of what he and the US military are doing in preparation for the eelimination of dissent by American citizens. [Save this tweet.]
Screenshot of a DJT Truth Social post from today, 20 Sept 2026. The link is provided.

It reads:

At the strong request of the United States Military, and for National Security purposes, I have agreed to convert the magnificent Triumphal Arch, planned since the Civil War Era many years ago, at the Receptive Circle adjoining the Arlington Memorial Bridge, into a top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch, to house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers, on both the roof and plaza areas, and additionally have and hold large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage. There will be no facility like this anywhere in the World. Out of the 59 top cities and Capitals, Washington, D.C., IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD THAT DOES NOT HAVE A TRIUMPHAL ARCH, but it will now and, by far, the greatest of them all! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

I had to chuckle because the first famous person I met was Jim Nabors. At a gas station in Fort Stockton, TX. Early 70s. He was dressed down, road-tripping with "a friend," and was polite to a little boy who loved Gomer Pyle, USMC. (The signs were there pretty early.)
Portrait of the actor Jim Nabors known for the TV show Gomer Pyle, a remarkable albeit misdirected singing voice, and many Hawaii-related whisperings. This is a promotional shot of Nabors in costume as Pyle smiling and looking slightly to his left.
