The financial hurdles of office conversion are proving to be enormous. Clearly, a boost in financial incentives, tax relief, and direct funding programs is needed to help these 'pencil out', as they say. /end

This is disappointing. A couple of years ago, Georgia-Pacific announced plans to convert much of its Downtown office tower to residential, including affordable units, plus a retail hub at ground level. Now they're scrapping the idea because of the expense. www.ajc.com/news/2026/09... 1/

A little over 14 years ago, Atlanta Beltline promised to "build transit within just a few short years" if the transportation tax was approved. Remind them of this at the Citywide Transportation Conversation tomorrow. See if they still intend to "fulfill the grassroots vision" 1/

The fact that it's not permitted by-right (meaning: w/out a zoning variance) in large parts of the city is disappointing, to say the least. And according to analysis from local builder Eric Kronberg, the upcoming Zoning 2.0 rewrite does too little to boost opportunities for gentle density. 2/

This is an intersection in Atlanta's lovely Glenwood Park development, which was designed specifically to mimic the pedestrian-oriented streets and low-rise density from the days before automobiles began to rule our urban planning. 1/

Studies have found that parking requirements force developers to build more spaces than are needed, causing increased rents for apartments. It's time for Georgia to do this! We've been reaching out to contacts to see if this can be added to lobbyist dockets. /end

Ugh. MARTA may have to reroute its new Bus Rapid Transit line for seven days because the City approved a permit for a Red Bull event for Formula 1 cars on Hank Aaron Drive in Summerhill. Obviously, residents are upset as well. 1/2

Good news: last night, the Zoning Review Board voted against allowing a new data center next to West End MARTA Station. This vote is only a recommendation to Council, but it's still important! Next, City Council's zoning committee will vote on it, possibly on Monday.

After the ZRB, the legislation could move to the Zoning Committee as early as July 13th at 11AM and Full Council on August 3rd at 1PM. Public comment is not allowed at those meetings.

The Atlanta City Council votes to approve the extension of most City (old) TIF/TAD districts until 2055. (State legislative counsel has argued this is illegal.) Only 2 members of council vote against. Meet the new boss, same as the… So much for a more independent council. #AtlantaWay

Ugh! Dickens appears to have taken thousands of dollars from the Affordable Housing Fund and used it to pay consultants who pushed for his TAD renewal initiative. Also: support local journalists! @atlpresscollective.com did great work on this.

Atlanta was supposed to do this but Mayor Andre Dickens rejected millions in earmarked regional funding and the pleas of local businesses and residents to dismantle Shared Peachtree, directly leading to two pedestrian deaths. It was rumored he did this to appease a single Republican oligarch.

Owners of large commercial properties should not be exempt from blight penalties! If Council passes this, the city's tax bill on the skeletal Campanile tower, which has blighted Midtown for several years, would go from $91,000 to nearly $2.3 million. www.ajc.com/business/202...

If a city tells you they have $100M to construct the largest police training facility in the country in the middle of a global pandemic, but the only way to fund grocery stores, hospitals, transit, and schools is to borrow money from your children’s futures…it is OK to have questions and concerns.

It's a little odd that MARTA would announce this today. According to the AJC article, as recently as this Tuesday, the new trains didn't appear to be cleared for usage. "No trains have been accepted yet, MARTA spokesperson Stephany Fisher said Tuesday." www.ajc.com/news/2026/05...

Well said! If the City of Atlanta is going to market TAD extensions by using the language of equity -- and visions of uplifting lower-income residents -- the TAD ordinance should *reflect that* by guaranteeing the money won't be spent on tentpole real estate ventures.

Clear data from similar implementations shows that the placement of platforms in the middle of a highway is problematic for ridership. It's concerning enough that we should ask if alternative locations were given enough attention. We need transit investments that succeed. 2/2

The chairman of Cox Enterprises, parent of the AJC, is using their news outlet to condemn Beltline rail. That's ridiculous. City leaders need to realize it as such. Arguing against rail transit in a city that's starved for its growth, and that is already funding it with a tax, is bad enough. 1/
