Bell curve meme. The midwit with average IQ says "Noo, look at everything bad in the world, history is still happening!" while the guys at the low and high end of the IQ spectrum agree "Fukuyama was right"

I see Pedro Sanchez has called a snap election. He is undoubtedly going to lose but mulling on his record from his time in power
Virgin Labour Party vs Chad PSOE

Virgin Labour Party:

-well the courts and EHRC say..
-Some of the highest energy prices in Europe
-Does corruption for Arsenal tickets and because the PM can't dress himself
-Has majority of 170, still can't govern
-Stagflation

Chad PSOE

-Passes gender self ID
-Negotiates gas prices with EU to keep inflation down
-2.6% GDP growth
Never has a majority, just does shut anyway
-The Sanchez family are getting paid

Additionally - pinning down a term with so many contradictory implications as 'Zionism' in a party conference motion is a fool's errand and will be unnecessarily divisive.

... and the latter is very obviously in fact a racist movement, the former is, I dunno, depends what you think of 19th century nationalism in general (I probably would not call all such things racist ideologies fwiw), and so there is just ambiguity because different people hear different things?

Not really able to handle Big Debate right now but isn't it just that some people are using "Zionism" to mean "the core proposition of a 19th century nationalist movement i.e. that the Jewish people get a state" some people to mean "the ideology of the present expansionist settler movement"...

Every single thing Spectro says is false, and their general point is irrelevant. - the pope is an influencer on any topic he chooses to speak about - he was elected in conclave - as spiritual leader of billions his words have immense weight - doesn't attack his point which is about human dignity

Flying is officially on course to account for *almost all* the UK's carbon dioxide emissions by 2050. Heathrow expansion alone would cause more carbon emissions by 2054 than *any other sector of the economy*. So why is it being contemplated? My column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

A third runway would fly in the face of reason. If we are to prioritise human life over short-term ‘growth’, we need to use planes less, not more, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

UAE officials have warned the UK government that the severity of Man City's punishment could undermine their appetite for future grand-scale commitments in Britain, according to people familiar with the matter
They consider the Premier League's actions to have an influence on the bilateral state relationship, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing undisclosed information
The extraordinary pressure comes after Andy Burnham faced criticism, including from within government, for saying Man City's Abu Dhabi owners should not be disqualified specifically because of the investment they bring to Britain

It’s a mark of the corruption of our whole way of thinking about the world that trying to meet a planetary emergency is routinely described as “ideological”, while continuing to accelerate it is presented as “pragmatic” and “economic”.

Meanwhile a thousand+ Reform councillors are elected on a platform of "stop the boats" which is way, way outside local government competence. Why doesn't anyone hold their feet to the fire over that?
010
Peter Berry @thrawcheld.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
An incredibly stupid question, the best response which IMO is "So what if it isn't? The post Zack is standing for is Member of the United Kingdom Parliament, not London borough councillor or AM. Foreign policy will be squarely within his competence as an MP and leader of a national party."

Peter Berry @thrawcheld.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
The media is incredibly bad at holding candidates to account for the policies that are actually relevant to the posts they're standing for. There are so many Reform councillors who mention policies that are outside local government competence but no one holds their feet to the fire about that
011
Peter Berry @thrawcheld.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
So what if it isn't? The job he's standing for is a national one, with foreign policy aspects. He's (presumably) not going to be a London AM any more.

You may be thinking of Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, who was born in exile in Ottawa in 1943. The Canadian government declared (by statutory instrument) a bubble of extraterritoriality around her mother so that it wouldn't be considered Canadian soil. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extrate...

I remember having a similar reaction when I visited a Catholic church in Munich, absolutely crammed full of gilding, and immediately realised why Protestant churches were so much simpler. As a Methodist, spending that much wealth on a church instead of good causes felt like an affront to God.

I think the relevant federal law here is 18 USC § 1030 which requires intent. "Negligent discharge of a firearm" is a specific offence that requires negligence. You can't say "this is serious, we should count negligence as intent" – the law doesn't work that way. www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/...
