"In 1956, MetLife Insurance researchers identified 437 orchestral conductors and followed them for 20 years, they concluded that conductors live 38% longer lives than the rest of us." Not sure I fancy eschewing retirement til 97...but this is still good news 😃 www.theguardian.com/music/2024/n...

More endurance than you can shake a stick at: does conducting keep you young?

Offenbach's "Journey to the Moon" written in 1875 takes its idea from Jules Verne. Originally in French it has a chorus with the English words "time is money". I was astonished at this. But it turns out "time is money" was a common phrase since Benjamin Franklin used it in 1748.

After Banjska we have to be clear and say that Serbia is evidently in the process of creating a heavily armed, state-backed insurgency force, which is deliberately targeting Kosovo’s law enforcement as well as the country’s civilian infrastructure. The “dialogue” is over, fully & completely.

Iain McGilchrist on what indigenous peoples have long known about our natural world.

Go out and encounter what is there and begin to see how you can wisely relate to it and it will tell you, it will come to you. It is creative the world we think of as 'dead stuff', that we manipulate, is actually living stuff with which once we make a bridge and a contact, and have a properly respectful encounter, induces a sense of life again and a wonderful feeling of compassion and wonder.
