The answer to why people think sex scenes in pop culture are unnecessary is that we as a society scorn people who practice the craft of making them good, and also scorn the very concept that it is a craft to begin with. It is, very frankly, a skill issue.

I don’t feel like I was very productive this past week. I ended up being sent on a side quest so I got a little bit of everything done, but nothing finished. Progress is progress, though, right? #queerwriters #lgbtqwriters #writingcommunity

I don’t know why this is the scene my mind immediately went to, since it‘s not from by current WIP. This one is actually from a WIP I put on the back burner right before lockdown and haven’t looked at since (I totally didn’t forget it existed there for awhile 😬)

The scene snippet reads:
The brick and mortar building sat on its own run down lot on the outskirts of the city. Yet, there was a heavy bite of salt and seaspray that hung in the air. What was once bright in color had dulled over the years, the abuse on the building taking an obvious toll. The walls were composed of dingy brick and mortar walls that looked as if they would crumble before the slightest of breezes. The inside, however, was a sharp contrast from the grime.
The interior was sleek and modern with a rustic undertone, resonating warm and inviting colors. The furniture that filled the room was nothing extraordinary. Oak dining sets were set in the middle of the room. Matching wooden booths lined the outer walls only leaving enough wall space for the bar itself which had a polished black marble countertop. Oak bar stools with black vinyl padding were neatly lined against the bar. The only lighting in the room were the sleek black lamps perched on the decaying brick walls aiming light down towards the booths and two matching fixtures dangling from the ceiling above the limited space behind the bar.
Alcohol bottles varying in size, shape, and color lined the back wall behind the counter, dim light hitting the bottles to illuminate the liquid euphoria. Occasionally drunken fools would grace the doorstep of Malano’s, order a few rounds of hard liquor, and carelessly slosh their drinks about, allowing the liquor to joyfully flee the glass. The alcohol would oftentimes scatter fat droplets across the tabletops, scarring the wood with it’s unmistakable scent. Every now and then the fumes would waft from the furniture and mingle with the woodsy scents creating an unforgettable smell that would cling to the clothing of any passerby.

I’ve always put a heftier focus on vibes, but for the past few years I’ve also added focus on the state of vegetation (or the lack of)...when I say it it sounds kinda weird, but I feel like it adds something to the feel of a place to talk about the flourish or decay of the little plant in the corner

I really enjoy writing places where nature is reclaiming space (like overgrown buildings) or there’s more of a co-habitation between nature and residents (cabins in forests, apartments full of plants, small towns with loads of green space and farmland, etc.) Writing spaces without greenery is scary

The official Canadian Petition to reign in payment processor censorship has stalled out just under 10k signatures. This is a reminder for Canadians, this is an OFFICIAL petition that will be responded to. Show your support in protecting our free speech! www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en...

e-6695 (Consumer protection)

Keywords
Censorship Credit cards Internet Pornography

E-petition
Initiated by Carmen Tam from Waterloo, Ontario

Original language of petition: English
Petition details
Petition to the House of Commons
Whereas:

Mastercard, Visa, and other payment platforms have been leveraging their power over consumer ability to purchase legal content;
In 2021, Mastercard changed its policies to regulate adult entertainment by preventing the use of its payment platform on numerous adult entertainment sites;
As of July 2025, video game distribution service Steam now cites rule 15, that “adult only” content is not permitted on the platform if it goes against payment processor’s policies. Steam does not describe what content is defined as “adult only”;
As of July 2025, video game distribution website Itch.io has “deindexed” all adult NSFW content from browse and search pages. Users that previously purchased legitimate video games cannot access games that have been removed; and
This has set an unsettling precedent of corporate censorship, causing concern in video game development teams, including developers, voice actors, and artists in other creative fields as their livelihoods are in limbo.

We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to
1. Stop financial discrimination by payment platforms against legal goods and services;
2. Ensure transparency to consumers about content restrictions and the rationale behind them; and
3. Protect creators' rights to make legal adult content and ensure a fair appeals process for any penalized media.

They erased the new Banksy mural in London. But the stain remains.

Side-by-side images of Banksy’s mural on the Royal Courts of Justice in London. On the left, the artwork appears faded and scrubbed, leaving only a ghostly outline of a judge raising a gavel over a protester holding a placard. On the right, the mural is fully visible in sharp black and white stencil, showing a judge in a traditional white wig and robes striking down at a protester who defends himself with a bloodied sign.
