If you focus on polarization, then you can stand above the conflict because "the person who picks sides is the problem". Except that doesn't help if one side is hostile to truth. If you pretend to be above the fray when one side is not engaging in legtimate arguments or deliberating in good faith..

One of the keys to a model carbon tax is that it's revenue neutral, in that it incentivizes decarbonization and does not just subtract from the general economy. This just takes money out of the economy and transfers it to those who manage the reduced supply.
