40 mins pinwheeling with #M101 #messier101 #PinwheelGalaxy. It was interesting to compare this recent image with my one of 2023 with its supernova. No sign of the star now. I didn't have time for the Ha filter - maybe a task for the future. #astronomy #astrophotography

Incredible. Perfect. Cenobite chic. Dress by Angus Tsui at London fashion week.

Two shots of a latex (?) dress by Angus Tsui. The model begins walking down the catwalk in a skin coloured dress with her arms crossed over her stomach. When she lifts her arms, it looks like she’s flayed herself alive, the ‘skin’ of the dress peeling back to reveal bloody muscle and subcutaneous tissue.

What is this? Maybe a painting? No! It's about NGC 2736, or Pencil Nebula, a small part of the Vela Supernova Remnant. 🔭 It's thought to be formed from part of its shock wave, plowing through interstellar space at over 500,000 km per hour! Image by Greg Turgeon & Utkarsh Mishra 🧪 #science 1/3
Slender glowing ribbon of gas, tilted like a narrow pencil, stretches diagonally through the deep space. Delicate red and blue threads weave and shimmer along its sharp form, brightest at the upper-right tip. Distant stars dot the void behind, dominated by the red of ionized hydrogen.

An example of a dark nebula: the Pipe Nebula. Originally, astronomers believed these were areas with no stars. But dark nebulae actually consist of clouds of interstellar dust so thick it can block out the light from the stars beyond. www.eso.org/public/news/eso1233 🔭 📷 ESO
A densely packed star field dotted with countless tiny stars of varying brightness and colour. At the centre lies a dark, irregular cloud of interstellar dust. Several prominent blue-white stars glow near the edges of the dust cloud.

This will need a click on your phone! The Heart and Soul nebulae. A full framed widescale image as captured in a single session last night by the Dwarf3! 180 minutes of 60 second exposures (the best 132 of which were stacked) #astrophotography #astronomy @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social
The Heart and Soul nebulae are
a pair of large, neighbouring emission nebulae in the constellation Cassiopeia, situated approximately 6,000 to 7,500 light-years away. Together, they form an extensive and active star-forming region within the Milky Way's Perseus spiral arm

The Heart Nebula (IC 1805) resembles a classical human heart, the Heart Nebula is a substantial cloud of glowing, ionised hydrogen gas marked by dark dust lanes.

The Soul Nebula (IC 1848) also known as the Embryo Nebula or W5 is adjacent to the Heart Nebula. It is a vast cloud of gas and dust illuminated by powerful particles from a cluster of new stars.

Andromeda galaxy, taken at the Kelling star party just before dawn. I've not done much imaging using RGB filters before, so took a short series of images to test exposure and gain settings. This is only 1½ hours total exposure. I'll try and do a proper session, hopefully with better framing! 🔭

The JWST had a new look into the IC348 star forming region last year, and here's my processed image of that observation! 🔭 IC348 is located some 1,000 light years away from us and is made of hundreds of new stars born there. HD: flic.kr/p/2ruCvCz
A focus on a star forming region seen in infrared light. Hundreds of white dots, big and small ones, can be seen everywhere in the image as they are stars! A lot of gas can be seen in the image, covering almost every part of it. This gas is what is helping the new stars to be formed there. In the upper left part, multiple jets can be spotted: they are stars being born at this very moment! A lot of background galaxies can also be spotted in the whole image
