The Helix Nebula, often called the “Eye of God,” is a planetary nebula about 650 light years away in the constellation Aquarius. One day, our own Sun will meet a similar fate. #astronomy #astrophotography @astronomybot.bsky.social @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

About 4,000 light years away in the constellation Sagittarius, the Lagoon Nebula is a vast stellar nursery where new stars are born. The bright glow comes from hot young stars illuminating surrounding hydrogen gas, while the dark lanes are dense clouds of dust and gas. @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Tonight’s Blue Moon shining over Texas. Despite the name, it won’t look blue. A Blue Moon is simply an extra full moon that occurs in a calendar cycle, making it a rare treat for skywatchers. Take a moment to look up and enjoy the view. #moon #astrophotography

The Eagle Nebula. Roughly 7,000 light years away and still one of the most incredible stellar nurseries in our galaxy. Those dark pillars are clouds of gas and dust where new stars are being born. #astrophotography #astronomy @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Capella shining bright tonight. What looks like a single star is actually a multiple star system about 43 light years away. The light in this image left that system back in the early 1980s. That warm golden glow comes from giant stars much larger than our Sun. @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social #star

Mineral Moon tonight. Boosted the natural color data to reveal composition differences across the surface. Blues and teals show titanium rich regions. Warmer tones highlight iron rich basalt from ancient lava flows. Same Moon. Hidden geology revealed. #astronomy #moon #astrophotography

I added 8 more hours to my M51, whirlpool galaxy data which puts this image right around 16 hours total. I don’t think I can squeeze out much more detail with my equipment even if I gathered more data. Hope you like it! #astrophotography #astronomy @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Wide-field astrophotography of the Iris Nebula surrounded by faint, smoky Integrated Flux Nebula. Subtle brown and gray interstellar dust clouds fill the frame, softly illuminated by the Milky Way’s background starlight.

The moon last night at 98.8% full and the star Betelgeuse. Betelgeuse could go supernova in the next 100,000 years, which basically means it could happen tomorrow because 100,000 years on a cosmic scale is really a short period of time. Hope you enjoy! #astronomy #astrophotography

At night along the Quai de Seine in Paris
At night along the Quai de Seine in Paris, a framed portrait from an outdoor photo exhibition stands in the foreground, sharply lit and isolated, while the riverfront city lights behind it dissolve into soft golden bokeh, creating a quiet contrast between still art and the surrounding urban glow.

The Elephant Trunk Nebula, when nature paints a masterpiece. 🎨 Where stars are born and dreams take flight. 🔭 N130/900 | 📸 A7S | ⌚ 5h Ha / 3h RGB @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social : What do you see in the cosmic canvas ?
A vibrant deep-space image of the Elephant Trunk Nebula, a cosmic region filled with colorful swirling gas and dust. Countless stars shine brightly across the scene, scattered throughout the nebula’s rich hues of purple, blue, red, and gold. The nebula’s intricate structure is shaped by stellar winds and radiation.

The Witch Head Nebula looks like a ghost drifting through space. Its eerie blue glow comes from starlight reflected off cosmic dust near the bright star Rigel. About 900 light years away this massive cloud shows just how hauntingly beautiful the universe can be @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social #astronomy

I always get excited when the Horsehead Nebula is back in the night sky. It is a super cool target and one of the first that I tried and failed miserably at. I made this image black and white mainly because I think it looks cool. How do you like it? #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

This is a star trail shot I took last month. With a little bit of editing, it turned into this. I call it Midnight Vortex. If you look closely at the center, that’s the only star that stayed still. The north star, Polaris. The rest is just us, not the stars, spinning through space. #startrails
